Default Mom wants a car what should she get?

so here are the stipulations.... 20-40K $$ budget...

all she wants is a convertable.

shes been looking at an M3 or an eclipse ( i said no to that but shes insisting on it)

any other cars yall can think up that would fit those specs would be great.
    thanks!

The Volvo C70 is REALLY nice actually. Depends on what she's into. M3 seems pretty serious actually. How about a CLK Cabriolet?

SAAB's got their 9-3 convertible...but even I'll say it's not worth it unless you get it used.

She doesn't need an M3, just save her money and stop at a 325i vert.

    gah.....not the sebring.

one of the mommy types had one out today and couldnt figure out how to get it all the way into the driveway, god forbid, going around the car already there and driving 3 feet into the freshly cut grass, and flat landscaped yard.

so she left the rearend hanging out into the street. top down. i was pissed that i didnt have anything to throw.

i agree wit ksniperfox an s2000 would be great in budget, fast enough for moms n reliable unlike an m3 which breaks down like every other week n much better lookin than an eclipse just my opinion

A pre-owned and certified SL500/CLK500 would make her wet her pants. That's probably what I'd get an elderly woman

You guys are very bad at putting yourself in someone elses shoes aren't you? An S2000 is not what a woman who is suggesting a Mitsu Eclipse spider wants.

I say a non M 3-series convertible is one of the best sensible chick cars. It wouldn't look as good as the SL500 or have as much luxury, but it would still have 4 usable seats, a somewhat decent trunk, the BMW badge for female convertible status factor, and a decent option list. Not to mention the E92 Bimmers are gorgeous.

If one more person says S2000 it will just confirm this site's over obsession with Hondas without actual thought put into posts.

Audi TT or Audi A4 Cabriolet are both nice cars that she might like. Any BMW 3 series convertible would be a nice selection for her as well. She is most likely going to want a comfortable car that isn't too slow, but isn't going to be anything that most of us are looking for when searching for a convertible.

Eos, A4 Cabrio if she wants to step up from the Eos, both of those work if she wants something newer, as alternatives to the BMW or Mitsu. In the 20-40k range there's a lot of variability. Vette Convertible, Sky/Solstice roadster (Sky Redline would be really great if she IS into sportier cars. Decent gas with a LOT of kick when you step into it) Any of the 3-series convertibles from basically any generation of 3-series. I really prefer recommending people towards roadsters that were designed to be convertibles from the beginning, you just have less problems with them when you do that.

And on that note, if she's REALLY into cars (and knows how to work on them) an Alfa Romeo Spyder is a Fabulous car with Pininfarina styling and an Italian heart and soul. It would have to be used, and it would be hard to find, but absolutely bar-none it would be an incredible car to have. It would be cheaper than the Mitsu, and she could spend the money she saves on really getting the Alfa cleaned up and in great condition and keeping the regular service done on it.
