Default Looking to sell a 240SX SE, and I've got a question.

Well, I've got a blown head gasket at the moment (KA24DE yay), and the typical thing I've heard is that I just need to get a new engine. So my question is...(given that you had an interest in buying it) which engine would you want in my car? A rebuilt KA24DE, or an SR20DET? (random note: everything else is stock at the moment)

An actually stock, unmolested, good condition KA24DE S14 is worth quite a bit actually. Many people want a car stock so that they don't have to worry with having to fix all the mistakes of the previous owner. A solid sellable swap will cost you around 8 grand at least for the SR20, and to do so right before selling it will guarantee that even if you got the price that SR swapped 240's are going for right now, you would only BARELY cover the cost of your swap and make almost nothing on the car itself. Plus, there'd be plenty of people lowballing you just trying to buy your car for the swap to take it out and put it in their 240 that has stuff done to it already.

My advice, if there's no too much damage to the engine, is to have a professional shop replace the headgasket and stud the head. If you blew the headgasket and destroyed the engine, I strongly suggest selling it as a stock clean shell. If you do the engine swap yourself you'll be struggling to find a buyer for it unless you've got a good reputation for being able to wire cleanly and tuck the engine bay at least as well as factory, and if you go with the KA24DE replacement you're still going to end up spending quite an amount of time, money and effort just to get the car back to blue book value. Does that really sound like a good idea to you?

blown head gasket = new engine? wtf?

just put a head gasket on it and sell it. as long as you didnt overheat the shit out of it there most likely wont be any harm done to the engine.

if i were you, id put in a single cam KA engine and build the shit out of it NA.

kaise made the only valid comment in this thread. the other 2 comments are nonsense since ur tyring to sell the car and not build the car for personal use.

i agree with kaiser on this matter.

I said what I would do or want if I bought the car.

If you're just trying to sell it... Take the head off, get it checked for straightness, stick a stock head gasket back on with the stock head bolts. Be sure to remove the very top and side chain guides when you do it if it's a DOHC.
