    Default Mazda and the europeans

Random trivia about the 92-96 mazda 929 and why it wasnt sold in europe.

" Well it could not pass one of the regulations over there..... that being that the headlight globes could not be changed from behind the lamp (ie: from inside the engine compartment.)

Apparently, the dealers loved the vehicle and thought it would be a good seller and begged Japan to alter the design to accomodate the fitting of the globes.

What did the designer think of their pleas?

    Something along the lines of:

"The design of the car is perfect and we will not change it. If this means the car cannot be sold in Europe, so be it."

I wonder if the designers still carry as much clout?"

i just thought it was kind of funny...maybe? i dont know?

I heard from a Clarion representative that Mazda asked Clarion to write Infinity on their radio because they wanted to advertise that the car had high end audio in their car. Clarion was highly offended, because at the time they were one of the largest manufacturers in the world, so they told Mazda that they would never write another manufacturers name on their product. I remember thinking that Clarion had a lot of balls to refuse something like that, I never really thought that much about their product.
Sorry for the thread jack, your story reminded me of this one.

I love Mazda, but holy crap I did't know they were this stubborn. It's really funny.

I heard the story from the Rep in the late 90's, so I guess it happened in the mid 90's, that's when Clarion would have had their largest market share, I think. I even tried looking up when Infinity or Clarion products were used in Mazda cars, so that I didn't sound like a complete retard, but I have no proof other than the story from that one Rep.
