I'm just tossing some options in the air for next year.
Budget ~10k (chassis, engine and suspension only. Seats + cage etc is extra)
Miata? E36? Porsche 944?
Lotus Elise with K20?! (talk about fun - but slightly over the 10k limit)

'92 C2500 6.5 Turbo Diesel | '96 240sx
autumn?...
I'd really love to have a 944 track car but those things are a bitch to maintain. but they're oh so sexy!
How about a 240sx with an LS2 in it! Then when it starts feeling slow I could procharge it so the boost is gradual and it'll be a shit ton of fun again lol
I havent really kept tabs much but how much are E30s and E36s in decent shape these days?
430 Scuderia.
a honda!
jk....k24 crx is fun..
Are you planning on competing? If so, look up class restrictions. That will really help you decide.
If you just want a fun car to track, get a E36 325i, swap in a M3 engine, and get suspension goodies.
UGA: Everybody is laughing at us this year.
I'm a track noob just trying to get into the game. Yea I think I'll just get a cheap car, upgrade the suspension and brakes, make the engine bulletproof and go from there.Originally Posted by nreggie454
I'd have to be rwd or fwd.
So
rwd:
Miata
240 (No really forget drifting for a sec)
BMW (Any of them)
Fwd
Civic
Sentra/G20
MX3
There are many others. The big thing here is a car that can help you improve to faster cars.
id prefer the Escort Gt/ protege Lx over the mx3 just because mx3's are a little heavier. and you can put the same motors in them. And they dont feel as stable to me in the. And you can find either running for about 500$Originally Posted by EJ25RUN

Thanks for the video it was pretty bad ass.
Scuderia... lol right! I meant 10k total, not 10k per session.
no prob. I want to know how they got that much horsepower out of a subaru.Originally Posted by Atlblkz06

Making the engine trully bulletproof will spend most of your ten grand.
Decide what you want to do first, Solo (AutoX, Autocross, whatever) has a very different set of requirements (And class restrictions) than Club (HPDE, Time Attack, Wheel to Wheel actual racing).
bulletproof motor - miata 1.6 or 1.8 both strong motors
Cheap - miata
Miata!
BMW E30 or E36, Subaru 2.5rs........look no further, lol.
I have a strong lead on an E30 that I may snag...good condition, runs great.
Miata, and not because I own one, that's why I got one lol. Motors are INSANELY reliable, cheap mods, handle great, and can be made faster as you want to get faster. If this is just for trackdays and whatnot. Although an E30 is a great choice too, or an E36 if you find one cheap enough. OR a Honda, despite people who THINK fwd cars suck at road racing![]()
You won't spend 10k making a car reliable..no clue why that was said lol.
AWD isn't the best for road racing always. I mean you rarely see many Subarus out there...

Because your definition of Bulletproof apparently isn't what the word actually means. That's why.Originally Posted by simontibbett

Im planning on slowly turning the Audi into a weekend track car. It will be slow as piss, but will handle well.
Well, bulletproof as in I can't shoot a gun at it? Or as in it will last a season under hard abuse? Because I know tons of race cars built for 10k total and ran same engine all year not a single issue. Explain.
