    Default help! n/a. b16a/b18c1head

    hey guys.
theres a guy thats selling his 94 civic with:
    b16a with gsr head
    its got:
    9,000 on motor since swap
    gsr p72 ecu
    gsr trans
    dc header
    magnaflow hi flo cat
    2.5 cat back
    skunk2 springs
    kyb front
    takico rear
    rear disc convo
    10000khids
    jdm Sir cluster
(got more stuff but not motor stuff, sorry but i did list a few non motor things...)

is this motor build friendly, b16a bottom w/ b18c1 head(gsr)?
basically, im wanting to build a N/A honda, but dont want to run into trouble because of a swapped head. meaning, i dont want to get cams, valves, etc, and have my valves get contact with the pistons and be screwed. basically would it just be better to stay with a straight motor, like keep it all b18c1 and build it that way knowing that all the parts will surely work because that the full motor. get what i mean?
i just dont want to spend 3k on a swapped civic thats not going to take me anywhere...
    so cliff notes:
    is a b16a w/gsr head builder N/a friendly?
if not why and yes why
thanks guys and i really need your help and opinions.

I dont know anything bout the b16a with gsr head but if its done properly i'm guessing it should work with no problem. As to building a honda N/A with a b16, i wouldn't recommend it. You cant get that much power out of 1.6 without turbo. And know even if you do make big numbers out of it, you will have close to 100ft/lb torque.

I agree, no replacement for displacement... and you aren't turbo'ing.
There's a reason people get B20 bottom ends and put b16/c5 heads on them.

umm.. a b16 head usually flows better then a gsr head.. but it wouldnt be a bad idea to build it although turbo or s/c is a better way to go

I know a dude that built a b16 he got like around 200hp and torque was like 110ftlbs

wrong. the b16 and gsr head flow nearly identical; within a couple cfm's of each other. an amount that is neglible. and having a gsr head on the b16 will bump the compression up a few points. it wont have much torque, so i suggest some kind of power adders such as a turbo or spraying it.

they dont have much torque, but they do have a great r/s ratio and you can rev them out forever. i think most b16a's make about 110ft lbs when they are around 160whp, so something is probably up with his. with 200whp, he should have been around 125-130

b16a isnt realy too good for n/a and thats what i want.
so basically just waiting to get something with a b18bc1 in it. preferrably a teg because i dont want to have to do a swap, etc.

Another thing fyi make sure the retainers and springs match...I had skunk2 springs and supertech alum. retainers in my pr3 head and the retainers broke! So I had to order the skunk2 titanium retainers...which i should have gotten in the first place but i wont get into that now...and the b16 is a perfect turbo motor...i can remember which month but Honda Tuning had one that was almost stock that made 400hp turbo'ed!!!! The issue had a FIt on the cover... ANyways that'll do!!

the supertech aluminum retainers kick ass, but you gotta match them up with the supertech springs and 10degree keepers.
