Default 1g DSM vs z31 turbo

so I'm in the market for a nice project. I've been looking at awd 1st gen dizzums, but the other day my boss offers me his 85 nissan 300zx turbo for $3000 and it's in great shape.

    so what would you choose?

That's pretty tough. I'd love to own either of those. I think I would get the z though if I had to choose.

I like the z31 if done correctly a lot more. Does it have t-tops? Auto/manual? Color?

Get the Z,it's a true real wheel drive sports car (grand touring if you must, but built ground up on a sport layout), not a grocerie getter on steroids wearing a biker jacket to sneak it into the sports club with the big boys(no offense if you own one, but factory sports cars > non-sport speacialty cars that became sporty as an afterthought).

^^ Yeah, I drew a frame of a man running on each fan blade. That is him running at idle

lol, and the DSM is much better??? Seems that every 1g I've been around required constant maintenance and was always breaking.

in all honesty dude, they dont make alot of after market Z31 stuff. the susp is terrible on these cars. you are GOING to have wiring problems. not maybe, not possibly, you will. esp with a turbo car. and its a slick top. which is less fun. just be careful man.

z31s just dont do anything for me. they look kinda ugly, and the suspension geometry is horrible. like lexi said, they are electrical nightmares, and this is now coming from a BMW owner....

ask my boss about z31s. we have 3 ex-race cars sitting behind the shop rotting right now. why? because they sucked and the owners not only wanted to stop racing them, but to stop owning them.

I've had 2 DSMs and I never had to "constantly maintain" them, gtfo with that urban myth.

if they're the same price, 1g awd dsm without a doubt

z31's are slow, heavy, relatively unresponsive to mods, handle like boats, and just all around a pain... also on the sohc motor its really hard to get past 350whp without sinking a LOT of $

the dsm on the other hand is lighter, will definitely handle better without a doubt... waaay more responsive to mods, giant aftermarket, just more fun to drive, and if something breaks you have one of the biggest enthusiast communities to help you out... As it says in their slogan "DSM's- turning regular people into mechanics daily"

but they aren't as unreliable as the their rep gives them. And their heads flow exponentially better than the sohc vg z31 crap head.

    Minimal mods: exhaust(400$), fuel injectors(200), fuel pump(100), safc(200) + big 16g(300-500), fmic kit (200-ebay), and etc (200) you're in the neighborhood of 350awhp

He might get more wiring issues with the Turbo (Which I will agree with 100%, you know that.) But the suspension geometry problems are GONE. We're not talking about a 2+2 NA like yours, we're talking about the 2 seater Turbo 5-speed. The whole setup is different, the only thing the same is the looks.

OP: 3k on a Z31 Turbo in BAD condition is a good price, for one in GOOD condition, you're getting a baller deal.
