    Default which would you rather have?

    so as the title says in a hypothetical situation, which would you prefer.

    a new gtr



    or a 99 3000gt vr4




    both are awd and v6 and tt, but you can get the 3000 with a 6 speed as opposed to an auto.

    GTR for me

    that 3000 reminds me a lot of a supra with the front end and headlights. i like it but would still rather have a GTR

    yea it is about 2 seconds faster, but think about the pricing also. For less than half the price you can have a much faster car.

    Ok, comparing a 3000GT and GTR is like comparing a Miata or F430 convertable.

    Not even in the same class. lol.

    In this RARE instance I vote GTR.

    The 3000GT is really one of the worst cars i have ever driven. It was converted to all wheel drive and comparing it to the GTR is ridiculous. I know there are legit reasons to dislike the GTR but the 3000gt was a failure from day 1. It wasn't ever successful in the U.S.A. and even less successful in Japan if that helps you understand.

    Most of you know that it has a horizontally opposed V6 right?



    I wanna see that ^ in a V6 Accord and Maxima....not a "wannabe" sports car.

    Impossible. A 3000GT is slower in every way. The world's fastest VR4 is built by Pit Road M, has 800+hp and is only a 10 sec 1/4 mile car.

    that is a completely false statement. the reason i know this is because i seen one do high 9's in the 1/4 at the dragstrip that i worked at,(Darlington Dragway) a couple years ago, and is it slower? yes i didnt deny that, but for the price of the 2 you can easily make the 3000 just as fast. and here is a vid of the car that did it

    although at a different track. also i would not classify it anywhere near a failure and i dont see why these 2 wouldnt be in the same category, they are both awd, both tt, both v6, both cost a good amount of money when they came out. ok the way the engine is positioned is different is that what makes them a different class?

    Ok, that must be have happened not to long ago, i did read the article about PRM about 4 years ago. Now you drive a miata so i'm assuming you know that cornering is just as important as going in a straight line. The 3000gt cant corner at all. It is too heavy and the chassis geometry is not set up for it. The GTR would be much faster in the 1/4 mile if Nissan took a Ford Mustang approach to building it. Instead they made it a proper car and that brought the price upto $70,000. It could cost much less if so much didn't go into making it such a good performer all around.

    (I'm having De Ja Vu....have we talked about this already?)

    That's easy, I wouldn't feel like hitting my damn head on the inside of the 3000GT everyday.

    no we havent discussed that before. and yes i am very aware of cornering, but im willing to slow down for a corner to go faster in a straight line

    besides i think the 3000gt looks ALOT better, plus it can be had in a manual.

    Looks are all opinion based and i can't argue with you there.

    Yes, H box is a must for me but even that wouldn't sway my opinion on the 3000gt. It is like having a 50's boat in a 90's Japanese body. Both the 50's car and the 3000gt can be had as a manual but neither is fun to drive aggressively. Have you driven one before? Many years ago i was considering one for my first car but i choose a 300zx (also a boat) over it. The 300zx was more fun to drive and i actually enjoyed it.

    Again, i think the GTR is only down (to some people and not me) in the styling dept. I do think it should be offered as a manual but i feel that it would lose around 5-6 secs around the Nurburgring without that double clutch box.

    havent drove the vr4 model but yes i have driven one before and i didnt think it was that bad. and yes it is heavy as hell.

    lol at this thread. Of course there are quite a few cars you could buy for $5k and spend $20k more to make it faster than a stock GTR. The thing is, at the end of the day, you are still driving a $5k car with a lot of extra ****. Assuming that money is no object, I would choose the GTR all day long.

    ofcourse i wouldnt take a VR4 over a GTR if all i wanna was the fast car,i mean a VR4 spyder is bout as rare as a GTR.......id take a Z06 if i wanna soemthing fast for the $

    I'm gonna call a big B to the S on the NON GTR voters if this is a "which one would you choose to have given to you". I seriously doubt that if presented with the opportunity to get one of these cars as a gift, that anyone would choose the VR.

    I will now stop honoring these polls based on that assumption.

    redrumracer, i'm with you. the 3000gt might be a heavy car from the factory. the 91-03's do a 14.1. the 94-99 do a 13.9 and the mr's in japan do a 13.7. the r24 gtr base did a 13.5 i think.

    with a boast controller, exhaust, fmic. you know the basic's the gto ( 3000gt) can do 12's easily. i've driven both the z15 and z16 style. it's like a snap in the neck.

    3sx.com and 3si are good resources. oh and gtpro.com

    i was actually looking into one for my next project. they can reach 700+ power levels just like the nissan and toyota rivals. they are track approved also. they lasted longer out of all the import super cars to come to the US in the 90's. the nsx out lasted them all.

    they just stopped makeing it in 02 in japan. just like all the others. they are beasts. and can do just as much damage, if not more than supra's and skylines for half the price. and the getreg tranny is bullet also

    the only real problems i've heard of is the transfer case, there was a recall on those, so its a free fix. and the 60k service. that almost has to be done at 60k. it's like at 61k you have tons of problems.

    go get one and enjoy those 9g turbos and i'll meet you when i get mine
