    Default vtec problem

    Ok i just bought a 95 integra with a gsr swap it has a chipped ecu but not tuned.whenever you get on it vtec is kicking in at like 4200 which should be 5200. but when i do hit vtec the rpms go all crazy and jumps from 4 to 8 or 9. what could cause that? its like vtec is not kickin in like it should could it be the chipped ecu?

    dude its probably the ecu..try putting a stock one in..and go from there..

    If the Rpm's are jumping around on your cluster it sounds like internals of the dizzy going bad...

    agreed......or maybe it is a slipping clutch.....and remember that the butterflies open before vtec .....so it sounds like vtec but earlier and then the vtec crossover is smoother than the butterflies opening. GL

    like Emmino said it sounds like something goin haywire in the dizzy disrupting the out put to the tach wire. id run a trial run with a stock ecu and a diffrent dizzy and go from there could be a corrupted ecu chip also.

    what you explainded is they way my old Ls motor acted when i got it back from the shop after i hydro locked it

    Depending on who chipped the ecu, a lot of times the tuner/chipper turns off things like knock,butterflies,02's, etc... unless otherwise specified.

    agreed again EmminoDaGreat. From what info you have given us it is really hard to tell what is actually going on.....take some time and try find out if it only happens sometimes or all the time....and the circumstances....hope this helps

    im not sure who chipped it. but when you get on it right when you hit vtec the rpms do it. and the guy i got it from said the butterflies are opening are 6g an vtec is kickin in to early for a gsr

    If it jumps from 4k to 9k then its going to be a bad dizzy.My friend dizzy did the same thing.I thought I was going to blow his motor one day until explained.

    ok ill try another out and see what happens.does this mess up the car performance?if it was to be going bad
