Default Fuccing hate shopping at parts stores these days...

All these fuccing stores, Autozone, O'Reilley's, NAPA and the rest keep hiring these damn women to work there. The fucc happened to having employees that knew what the business was all about? That's like hiring a proctologist to run a zoo. Or hiring Cocktus_EG to give a speech about the English language. I'm not sexist by any means, but come on, you have to have people that aren't going to look at you as if you just walked in with a damn eye patch on, wearing a wooden leg and shouting, "Where's my booty?"

I went into Advance Auto yesterday to ask about a part and she looked at me and said she didn't know. What the fucc are you working here for then?

Dammit. I used to be able to walk into Pep Boys and there wouldn't be a female in sight. You could ask anyone and they or someone else would know the exact answer.

    Dammit. Later, QD.

Little out of the way, but Summit has never let me down. But I've never gone there for a factory replacement part either...

Its cheaper for them to Hire women/men that don't know anything an train them, then hire experts as myself to run a parts store! I worked at all the parts stores an they are all the same!!! let a good expert in cars/parts go that makes 22hour/1100 week salary, full timer..an hire 10 dumba$$ at 6.75 hour -7.00 part timers an train them! But they dont understand how many customers get pissed when they dont know shltt about what they are looking for ,an stop coming there!

I feel you there, you can't walk into a Autozone unless you already know the part number to tell them... And there's still a chance they'll get it wrong.

That, too. But if you have any sort of doubt about the part and you want to try to maybe get confirmation that this may be the part you need.... and you can't get that with Ms. Noknowledge. Later, QD.

Its definitely not just women. This one time my friend's car wouldn't start and we had narrowed it down to the battery or the alternator. So we take the battery to get tested at advanced, and they tell us that its good. So we go and get the alternator off the car (took about 30 mins under the car and bloody knuckles) and take it to get tested, the guy there says its bad, but he didnt have it in stock and we would have to wait a few days. So intead of ordering it we go to the store accross the street, i think it was oreilly's or something. We ask if they have the alternator, and they did, but we decided to let the guy test ours again just to make sure. He tests it and says its good! There was an autozone another mile or so down the street, so we decide to get a third opinion. The guy there says its definitely bad, and they had it in stock and cheaper than the 2 other places. We go ahead and buy it, i think it was like $160 instead of $210 since they took in our old one. We go back to his house, and after installing it, the car still didnt run. Turns out the battery was bad to begin with and the alternator was fine...

All of these idiots were men. There was also one time where I had to convince the guy that yes, the 240sx outside has 300zx brakes and no the 240sx rotor won't fit. What the hell just give me what I ask for!

I once had a mechanic, who by the way owns his own shop, tell me that the best way to put on a FSTB was to lift up the whole front end of my car up, and to install it with my front wheels/front end off the ground. Take a minute and let that sink into your head...And he was a man...and a honda tuner

Generally speaking, a NAPA will have a lot of older mor eexperienced guys than the "new age" parts stores.

A lot of it is because a new manager gets a store and Corporate won't let him fire the people there who are screwing up. And since the stores are always changing managers they never get a manager who is willing or able to straighten out the BS. My friend managed an Advance and they wouldn't let him fire anybody untill he had been there for several months. By that time he got fed up and left.

Anybody who would be good working a parts counter can make much better money doing something else.

And the manager actually has the ****tiest job in the store. Salaried for 40 hours for a job that sometimes takes 50 or more.

That happens to me all the time.

AZ employee-"What is this part going on?"
Me-"Well I'm gonig to give you the car that I need the part FROM, an 85 Mazda Rx-7 GSL-SE"
AZ -"wait, you can't just mix and match parts, what are you driving?"
Me-"don't worry about it, it has an engine swap"
    AZ-"well let's just make sure"
    me-"ugh, it's an 83 Rx-7"
    AZ-"1.1 12A rotary?"
    Me-"no, 1.3L 13B rotary"
AZ-"The computer says the 83s didn't come with that"

ever since that day I make sure I don't mention that I am mixing parts.

That's fantastic when I want parts for my S30, but when I'm getting parts for an Integra or anything modern, all I get are grumbles and "I'm not sure we carry that" and "We don't anything for fuel injection but we have a whole warehouse of spare carbeurators, wouldn't you prefer that young man?"

I feel your pain and I AM a woman... All I can say is that it is HARD to find good help, even when they give you the money to pay someone. I personally don't hire women for the counter, maybe as a driver, but if they don't work as hard as me and know as much as me, then its a no go....

There are some stores that have females that know what they are talking about. Not many but they are out there

Where was this at? A couple of weeks ago I did a lap of 285 in search of a carb. I even went all the way down to Summit and still couldn't get what I wanted.

Agree with you 100% QD. Walked into an AutoZone & the fuc*ing female was on the company phone. Put her finger up to tell me hold on a sec. Took her about 5min before she got off the phone. Asked her dumbass for an imact driver to remove the screws from my brake rotor, & she was like "whuh"? Ended up going to an Advance & found it there. I usually just go back to Mazda for whatever parts I need since I get the ill discount with them.

That reminds me of another story, and now that I think about it, I could probably go on forever with stupid parts store employees stories...

Back when I worked at a parts store I got a few "stupid customer" stories too.

1.) guy buys the smallest, crappiest battery we sold, then gives me a $10 tip for installing it (we weren't supposed to take tips, but hey... its free money)

2.) Guy comes in saying his truck won't start when the engine is hot. Headers wrapped right around the starter are glowing red hot.

3.) Guy brings in battery, I load-test it. Its bad. I tell him its bad. He says test it again, so I tell him how its bad to load test a battery more than once. He says he wants it tested anyway. So I test it again and it starts smoking and boils over "Ahhhh man you done ****ed up my battery"

I went to the Advance auto parts store on Friendshi road and the "parts manager" told me he could not tell me what kind of oil my BMW takes. How the hell am I suppose to buy some oil ( I just bought the car) if I dont know what kind I need to buy. F**king DumbA**., Johnny.

On the flip side I get customers all the time who think they know everything...... scenario -->
    Customer: "I need _____ for a 350"
Me: "Do you mean a chevy small block or a ford 350 pick up?"
    Customer: "Small block"
Me: "OK i need some more application details to get you the right one."
Customer: "WTF is with all the damn questions ain't u just got _____ for a 350?!?!?"
Me:"Sir that part has at least 4 different designs i can think of if you dont give me a year range and platform to work with there a chance the part will be wrong."
Customer: "No they aint different they all the damn same i been bustin my knuckles on small blocks while you were ****ting in diapers!"
Me:"Well its pretty obvious the **** I was taking knew more about small block chveys than you."

I don't get angry with a sales assosicate who is polite, well trained, and obviously trying to be of service. Like when the (store manager) at O'Reily's did not understand how to read heat range on NGK spark plugs. He was helpful, just didn't understand what the numbers meant. So I explained it to him, and in return he gave me the plugs.

However, my last PepBoys experience involved meeting "Darsheke" at the back counter, with her 4" long sparkly gold nails, as she was tearing into a bucket of KFC Extra Crispy--not too unlike how a lion tears into a zebra. Once Darsheke (or Shanequa, or Funtaya, or whatever her name was) had consumed the bucket, she waved me over with her shiney, greasy hand and inquired, "What you want?"

Pep Boys' employees tend to be the laziest, least informed, and most apathetic of any of the chain parts stores.

But would it not be obvious that if you work in an auto parts store, you should have some sort of knowledge of cars. I don't expect everyone to know the correct torquing of head studs and shiit. But when I ask a simple "oil change" question or a question of that level and the employee looks at me as if I had asked her to move the moon over behind Mars, then there is an issue. Why would Bill Gates hire a nanny to work in his computer lab to develop new software? Why would any company hire someone who is NOT qualified at all for a position? You've taken this question personally and you shouldn't have. But ten years ago, you could walk into Pep Boys or wherever and find nothing but males in there and pretty much the combined efforts of the whole shift could damn near build you a car. Now when you go in, the only thing you'll learn is how to do hair and gossip. Later, QD.

i agree 100% i used to work in Auto Parts Retail

The other employees complained that they were looking bad because everyone came to me, I seriously had a line waiting to speak to me.

I would go out of my way to help an individual, and then get yelled at for not selling..when in fact, I was selling, just also answering questions

YOU ARENT A MECHANIC QUIT TELLING PEOPLE WAYS TO FIX STUFF WITHOUT LETTING THEM PURCHASE THINGS

And thats when I told my boss that I was too classy for this job, and good luck finding a 16 year old girl to replace me, good luck with your loss prevention problems too.

    *sigh*

sucks being on the bottom of the corporate ladder.

EDIT: I was also DENIED my ASE certification because I hadnt worked there long enough for them to accept it... WTF.

I worked at AA for over 4 years, and u are right, they do hire plenty of people who dont know their game, and arent car savvy at all...I quit because i got tired of being the only ASE cert in my store, and getting calls for help on my days off
