Default Discount Tire has lost their mind....

So I stopped by a Discount Tire today to address my 2 front tires. They have some camber wear and i wanted to flip the tires on the rims. I half expected them to just say no because it is close to the wear bar, but they didn't. Well, we walk inside to get the "out the door price". So what do we think having 2 tires dismounted, turned around and remounted would cost? How about $70!!
Yeah, I don't think so. The guy was telling me that mounting was $17...$1 per inch of rim then $15 a tire for dismounting plus balancing. (Or was it $17 per wheel for dismount and mount...but that would have been $34 and over $30 to balance two wheels )
My GF had bought a set of tires there and had the old ones dismounted, new ones mounted and balanced... mind you this was for FOUR (4) tires, and it was only $56.

Yeah.... ummm no. I think i'll call GTE tomorrow.

Damn. I had 8 tires dismounted and 4 mounted (switching tires from one set of wheels to another) on my moms car with balancing for 60 at NTB.

That's why it pays to: 1) be nice, and 2) have a friend there.

yep i got a new set of rims and wanted firestone to dismount my old rims and put on my new rims to my set of old tires. they said they could do it, started to take my nuts off, than said that my studs could fall off with the nuts. they wouldnt do it and when me and my friend checked it out, nothing was wrong....

I was charged about $65 by a forum sponsor a couple years ago to mount & balance two 16" wheels/tires that I brought to them. They didn't even have to rack a car or anything!

It was around $15 to mount & $15 to balance plus tax and disposal fee but I was in a bind: had a flat on the way to work, hitched a ride back home, got the race jack and stands & two tires from the house, woke up the roommate that didn't hear his phone ringing before, off to the shop to make sure they had time, back to the car, left my car on the jack stands on the side of a 285 on-ramp, back to the shop to swap them out, then back to the Integra that I thought for sure would be stolen by then, haha!

That was all after having a blow-out on the other side the night before so my only full-size spare was on the car. At least we know my LSD was functioning properly to have 2 flats in less than 24 hours!

From now on, two sets of wheels and tires minimum so no more BS like that!

well to be honest, that was prob a "go away price"

Discount Tire makes money by SELLING NEW TIRES and selling ROAD SIDE HAZARD plans.

They dont make money flipping your camber tires around. It costs them $10/hour for a tech , so if they charged you $20 or $40 they would prob only be making $15-20 per car.

Its not worth it to them when they sell $5000 in tires a day. Especially if they are busy.

WHat did you expect from a big corp?

Try something a little more mom and pop like GTE.

I agree with Mike...I would tell customers a high a$$ price to make them leave an go else were also...But sometimes the Idiots still wants you to do it lol...Example .

customer- " How much to do front brakes on my 94 honda civic,I got all me own parts too"
Me- " Well your looking about $150.00".
customer- " Oh ok can you do it now?"
me- " Of course I can get it on it right now takes about 20 mins"
customer- " Paid the 150 labor only an was soo damn happy "

Hmmm selective customer service...what a great way to deal with a customer who has bought several set of tires and two sets of rims in the past two years.... spent far more then their "regular" who buys a set every other year.

Ant. I'll try to hit you up sometime soon to get this done.

Justine - I'll be avoiding DT for awhile now... just like i've boycotted McDonalds, Zaxby's , and WalMart because of bad customer service.

DAMN, I had a flat bc some of the neighborhood hoods yanked one of my valve stems out, I threw my spare on and rode to discount, they dismounted my tire, replaced the stem, remounted and balanced the tire. balanced the pressure in all 4 tires, and tourqe the lugs on all 4 wheels FOR FREE!!!

my local Kauffman tires FTW...they take care of me well. $40 to dismount old tires, put new tires, and fore balance all 4 and these were 19's with 35series tires. It's always good to be friendly and know people.

Discount Tire is a bunch or F sticks. I got new tires there about a year ago and they didn't replace my valve stems. About two weeks ago I come out of a restaurant to find a flat due to a dried out stem. Looked at the others and they were all in bad shape.

To their defense they replaced them all and took me right in when they were busy to get me going again. But I was a pretty disgruntled customer at the time.Probably bad for business to have me bitching for a while.

^^ breaking studs suck. Cuz ppl get all bitchy saying you are messing up their car when really, they dont take care of their car. I've stopped taking tires off for a rotation or wut ever(work at a goodyear) and told the owner that the stud is gonna break just so they wont ***** at me. Sometimes ppl even come in on 3 studs on a 5lug car. I just LOL in my head...

But to the op, at the goodyear i work at we will rotate for free(or like 10 bucks) rotate and balance for like 14(cuz balancing sucks lol) and we can dismount and remount for free if the mananger is in a good mood and we have made our money for the day lol.

Call GTE from now on, or bring the rims to me. I will balance them for a few dollars. I can use 3 different types of weights. I use very nice 3M weights.
