Default 300ZX TT vs. 2G GST vs. MKIV GTI

Ok now that I am finally making a good bit of money I have decided that it's time for me to get a new project and keep the 3G around for a backup when needed.Whatever I get I need to be able to DD it with little to no problems while still being able to do mild mods. I want to get into something boosted but still get halfway decent gas mileage(for comparisson I'm averaging 22mpg/300 per tank in my v6 3G). I picked these three for the following reasons

    300ZX-TT V6 18/24mpg, very sexy, 300hp
    2G GST-I miss my old 2G , 4G63 FTW , 23-31mpg
MKIV GTI-Very good looking cars, german reliability, I drove one 2 years ago and can still remember the smile it put on my face.

Now obviously each will have its draw backs

300ZX-expensive and hard to work on
    2G GST-Possibility of crankwalk
MKIV-Aftermarket stuff is expensive from what I have seen

Now if I were to get either of the first two I would probably get one with a straight body, interior, and high miles and have the motor rebuilt and freshened up. At this point I'm just kind of wondering which way would probably be the more cost effective route to go. I would really love to get a 300ZX but the GST and the GTI just seem to make more sense. And out of those 2 I'm really leaning more towards the GST simply because I could get it quicker and the GST from what I understand it is cheaper and easier to work on.

If anybody knows what it would cost to get the motors rebuilt on the GST or 300ZX please chime in or if you have a reccomendation on where to take it that would be nice also(thinking top speed on the GST and Z1 on the 300ZX)

Just wanted to get some outside opinions and have people throw info at me I may not be aware of.

Stupid question? But why a 2g gst and not a gsx? As far as rebuilding a 4g63. Shouldn't be more then a couple thousand at most.

Like I said earlier reliability is the key and from what I hve seen the drivetrain and transmissions are big problems on the GSX.

I have never really liked 240's that's why it's not on the list.

asfar as re3building goes the most inexpensive way to go is to get a replacement engine most only run between 1100 and 2000

ive seen VR4s trailered in at last years SELOC and they the fastest they ran was a mid 12 and they where fully decked out. sooo... yeah i dont see how a 3700+ awd car can be fast.

I used to have a 300ZXTT, Its a really fun car to have, but mods are kinda on the pricey side, takes some time to work on since everything is kinda squeezed together, and fuel economy suffers alot.

You should get an oldschool nissan, nothing is more reliable than they are. My 280zx has 275k running strong, my friends 84 300zx has 550k on the original motor, never been rebuilt. A 240z comes btween 2200-2300lbs stock, my 280zx is down in the 2500's now. Mine is an NA however, but with minor boltons' im running 15's on 8 to 1 compression, imagine with 11:1 or a turbo car. As far as fuel economy goes, I get 26mpg city, and over 30mpg on the hwy.

not to worry i have pretty much eliminated the gti from the list simply because i'd rather buy a gst or a 300zx dirt cheap and have a car with a completely rebuilt motor than a 10 or 12k gti with 60-120k miles on it.

I will be keeping the 3G but at this point I'm just tired of slow fwd cars and want to get into something quicker that I can have fun with. Even if I only drive it on the weekends I'd be happy.

I will probably still do some stuff with the 3G but whatever I get will end up getting 90% of my money.

Everyone with a black or red car thinks that time attack will make there car "set their car off", etc. But its just overdone and ugly in my opinion. I'd muccccch rather see a nice set of silver wheels than some that need to be painted to match my car.

LOL, I might be coming away from the lexus crowd actually. There are a few nice Audi A4's for under 20k 1.8T 6spd and AWD, now if I could only find a wagon!

definitley get a 300zxtt.... this is speaking from experience. As for working on them, my 300zx is the first car ive worked on and its not so bad. A little cramped but exciting when you finish a tedious project. The power is great, as for weight... GET MORE POWAH! I probably weigh in at like 3800 with a FULL system, a carputer and im pushing close to 500whp. This by no means is slow, if i take out the system my cars good for low 11's. These cars respond to mods VERY WELL and put out ALOT of torque.

Go for the 300zx. Rather than build a new motor just drop an LS motor in there for relatively cheap.
