Cool 2jz swapped nissan's - anybody on here?

I've been going back and forth between a cheap and easily done sr20det swap vs a 2jz swap.

This would be for my s13.

Now I know some of the pro's and cons, but honestly I don't want to buy another car - since I have too many already, and I have certain goals in mind for my little coupe. (300whp soon, then 500+ later).

Since I purchased a house in a rather nice area, they don't take too kindly to me working on cars in the driveway - and I keep the good cars in the garage at night - so an extended project would be difficult for me to do on my own at this point.

I may be looking for a shop to do all or part of this undertaking.

So, is anyone on this board rolling around with a 2jz swap?

Since this will be a daily driver, I will retain AC with whatever swap I decide.

If you have 2jz, will you please post up your impressions?
    Was it worth it?
Are you completely happy with your swap?
Who did it, and how was the experience?
    Would you do it again?

i would suggest talking with turbo dave. he has done many 2jz swaps. many of the parts can be sourced now through various websites, but if you're looking for an easier solution, im sure turbo dave could take care of you.

another friend who might be able to help, would be decker along with his shop, killswitch performance.

as for people to speak with about the setup... i know mike aka mr. kidd, decker aka decker1.8T, and a few others have completed the swap. although i think decker is the only one driving around with one at the moment.

good luck with your project. i love 2jz's!

I think the folks listed above are some great sources, but I would also like to throw out another name...Sammy Tiger. He is a 2JZ fanatic. He (IMO) is worth at least speaking to about this.

    it all depends.

FIgure to do a 2JZ RIGHT, its a $12000-14000 investment, it CANT BE DONE FOR CHEAPER.

THats buying a GOOD Motor, replacing the oil pump, timing belt, water pump, cam seals, rear main, front main, tensioner, headstuds, etc.

Thats buying TDF mounts, DSS driveshaft, ALuminum radiator, fans, exhaust, downpipe, FMIC and piping, SAFC, tach adapter and speedo adapter so gauges work, etc etc etc

with that budget you could prob doa cheap single conversion too.

personally, id just do an SR20DET, its cheap an easy and with minimal mods you can do 300whp.

I mean come on ken! are you really going to want a 500whp SR20DET?

Youll be happier with the SR20

How many trannies would you like with the 500hp SR? Ken, you looking at Time Attacking the 240? I think everyone around here with one hwy races theirs anyway. The only thing that I am concerned with YOU and a 2J in a 240 is weight, you are going to have fun getting the suspension right.
Now that you got a girl though, sell the 240, buy a cressida+2j and drive the hell out of it!

He can have one tranny with the 500HP SR. Just use a 300ZX Tranny with an adapter plate. Easy.

Fact is the 2J Costs money, you cant skimp on it. An i know what it costs to do one right, i spent the money an mine spun a bearing 1st pass at the track.

Deckers rod knocked after a year of abuse

Andys motor looks like it has been through WWIII

Problem with the 2JZ swaps is the engines are ABSOLUTE SHI T. Only way to do it right is rebuild the CHEAP engines or buy the $4000 USDM SUpra motors that have low mileage.

If you have the money to do it right, an you want a highway car, the 2J is the way to go.

If you are on a budget, the SR20det is vastly superior. Plus its lighter.

You can do an SR20 for $3000 EASILY, you can make 300whp with $1500 in mods or less.

I heard that S13 chassis are getting too old to handle the torques these 6 cylinders push unless you do like a full chassis thing with it like roll cage and stuff. Is that true?

And the other question is that can I have a 400+whp car after the $12k I spent?

Honestly I dont see why more people dont build the stock KA engines. They have a better R/S ratio than the SR and its a lot more displacement for the torque that you would want in track racing. BUT, I know nothing about the heads and how well they flow, or if they have the same rocker arm problems that the SR has. Its just a thought and a hell of a lot less money. Toss a Borg Warner S258 on it and it will spool like a disco tater and make 600whp if you wanted to push it. I know SRT-4 guys are making 600 on them.

Mike, I Agree with the whole JDM 2j swaps. Its a great way to get the engine/tranny at a good price, but I would certainly want to rebuild it.

Um what? A KA is a long rod truck engine.

My point exactly, short rod= more side load on the pistons which aids in the worse R/S ratio............

I haven't personally done one but my close friend has spent the better part of the last 3 1/2 years putting one together. He originally started with a SR20. He added a gt2540 turbo on an ebay manifold and made 330whp/3xxwtq with FMIC and 3 inch exhaust w/SAFC and 300zx maf. The car was a blast to drive and was plenty fast for the street. He later sold it and started his 2j project. This was before the 2jz frenzy a few years back. I have seen first hand the parts list add up and the budget constantly revised. Mike, vteckidd, has the cost just right. Long story short. I think he could have blown up a sr20 motor and tranny each year, had more fun, and spent less than he has in his 2jz project that is still unfinished. SR20 FTW!

So what you are saying is that my 510 + KA with forged high comp pistons + 150+ shot direct port nitrous = Win?
