Strangest thing I ever seen, but the valve cover seems to be leaking oil from the bolts! Any ideas on this?

How stupid do you think I am? I already tried that...Originally Posted by phatboislim

Wondering if it could still be wet from the same leak from weeks ago?! It's definitely leaking oil from somewhere though. Checked last night and the oil was almost bone dry.... Had to add almost 4 quarts to it!!!
I didn't realize it was like that. I was told all of the gaskets had been replaced and so I didn't think I had a problem. I may have to get under it this weekend and check the drain plug and oil pan gasket as well...Originally Posted by phatboislim
You need to call and ask him.
I was offered that car as a trade, i would've been very upset.

I'll keep an eye on the oil and see what happens. If it loses oil that quickly again, I will definately be in contact with Chris to ask him about it...Originally Posted by Kevykev
for future reference ALWAYS check under the car and all the engine parts that you can and fluids just to make sure there arent any leaks that are visible or trying to be hidden. when i bought mine i chked it and knew what leaks i had to fix, cam plug and rear main oil seal...u just may have stepped into a situation
This is something I knew, and generally do. Idk what I was thinking. I guess I was just excited about buying a GSR and didn't take the time to check everything out as thoroughly as I should have....Originally Posted by phatboislim

the valve cover was wet from before i replaced the gaskets, however it isn't unheard of for those grommets to seep a little oil. however, as for being 4 quarts low, you are correct that is something to be concerned about. honest question, not accusing you of anything whatsoever, have you been driving the car in vtec a lot? all the b-series motors with some mileage burn a little oil in vtec, that could be a contributing factor. have you noticed any wet spots in your driveway? let me know if there is any way i can help you out.
PBS- man, there is no "supposedly" to being a tech bro. this is a used, 12 y/o car, issues can and will arise, period. not being a **** at all, and i hope you don't take it that way, but it all boils down to this: **** happens, it's how you deal with it that counts.
Who knows?
I haven't noticed any wet spots in my driveway. That's why I'm so confused as to why the oil was that low. I've actually thought about taking some brake cleaner to the valve cover so that I can see if it's still leaking. I don't think I could lose that much oil that quickly from the valve cover anyway, and I think it'd be more than just wet if I were. How do I know if the VTEC is kicking in? I do drive it pretty fast when I'm in a hurry to get to work, and on occasion when I just feel like it, but most of the time I drive it about the same as I drove my Sunfire. Just barely beyond the legal limits (speed limits, ect). I've always taken off from a light pretty fast, though. Usually the first off the line, even in the mini van.Originally Posted by hondabuilder

there is truth in that whole posts including about stuff happens. but when you replace the valve cover gasket..most people get the whole valve cover gasket kit which includes the grommets for where it is bolted down and for the spark plug seals. IMO why werent those changed out if thats a spot from where its leaking. also why wasnt the engine degreased when these procedures were done to ensure there werent anymore or the same leaks were forming again. see where i'm coming from. i mean esp when you are selling, because no matter how you look at it, this thread MAY form speculation to some on whether or not to buy cars from you again if you see where i'm coming fromOriginally Posted by hondabuilder
naw man i understand all your points.
didn't buy the whole VC gasket set because a) it wasnt in stock, but the gasket itself and the spark plug tube seals were and b) i had a bunch of those grommets in my tool box.
with the schedule that i had on getting this car completed for the buyer (which i did early as a matter of fact) that was the least of my worries. rebuilding the transmission was the primary concern.
Who knows?
