Default civic r coming to the states?

I just found this out, so excuse me if I'm late, but that kinda cool. It reports that if it does come, it is coming out in 2010 so probably starting next year they will start to import them over here!!!

During a recent press drive for the Euro-market Civic Type R (which resulted in this month’s WR cover story), our European Editor, Matt Davis, caught some heavy hints that a variant of the hot hatch is indeed headed Stateside in 2010.

Though the assistant chief engineer from Tochigi was loath to talk specifics, the plan is to offer a package in keeping with the Japanese-market Type R (read: four-door sedan), and include a horsepower boost and a limited-slip differential.

(Click through to the jump for more details and images)

The prototype car shown above, modeled on Honda’s JDM/ASEAN market Civic sedan, incorporates a 2.0-liter iVTEC engine giving nearly 220 horsepower, along with the usual suspension and appearance modifications. Given the close proximity of the standard Japanese Civic sedan to its North American counterpart, it would likely be easier to federalize such a model than attempt to import the Euro-market Type R’s angular hatchback, whose bodystyle wasn’t developed with either the U.S. or Canada in mind.

This strikes us as a wise move, because as wonderful as the current Civic Si is here in the States, it’s outgunned by high-horsepower entries like the Mazdaspeed3 and Subaru WRX, both of which will be likely targets for this more expensive CTR.

not bad.... but no one will pay the price of 30K for them... unless that mess is FULL CTR material. Recaro everything, and RHD.

if it's coming i think everything gonna basically be the same, except the seats are not going to be racing designe but like the si version. Also it will come with a 220 hp engine ,lsd, and a little bite more from what I have read about it (refer to the link).
Beside save you money and buy the r instead of the gay mugen si... lol it will be well worth it because the standard r have already beaten the BNR34, NSX S type zero, Evo VI with a lap time of 2:35.20 at Suzuka Circuit.

hmm.... well i'll give it that the CTR is a great competitor all the R's have been... the ITR still holds my highest respect in racing and street alike. but @ the end of the day its a civic. the higher HP is good, still doesn't have the TQ to back it up. but its nice to see they will finally offer the LSD over here (WTF have they been thinking not doing it since day 1 ) and yeah screw the MUGEN one. however Mugen/Spoon parts will make this car the shiznit. and thats sad about the seats. half the allure of owning a type R is that you have FACTORY pimp status. the new Si seats albeit nice are NOT recaro's... if i buy some frickin recaro's i better have those 6 letter stamped into my frickin seat lol. but we'll see... if they were smart they would offer a TRUE version of this car over here.... RED interior/WHITE exterior/LSD/RECARO seats... it will sell either way but still sad to hear about the seats... you make good points though.

Isn't the rsx/integra just a civic with a touch of "Acura's luxury"? I mean, Acura is a branch of Honda and they do share the same platform and sometimes even drivetrain. For instance, the older Acura TL's and the Honda Accords. Even the Acura TSX is a Euro Accord. So all I'm saying is indeed a civic is a civic but likewise, an "Acura" TSX/TL is merely a Honda Accord so... isn't the "Acura" ITR "still a civic"?

An Integra is not quited and civic, but then again look at the toyta supra, the sc300 and the celica, (also g35/350z, r32,33,34). The supra, was a more aggressive version of the celica back in the days, and then once it was independent lexus decided to use the same platform/chasiss of the supra to make it inot a lexus sc300, same with the skylines, there probably many more example of this, but I can't think of any more right now lol. What im trying to get at is that why mess with something if it good? Just make it better?

When they made the ITR it was with the same chassis design as the eg but they, redesign the supension alittle bite as well stiffen it up , and introduce a more powerful engine (b18c5) they did not just put a new skin on it an sell it as a acura integra. the later model ITR(dc5) i think was design on a new platform, then that of the civic(ep3), but i'm not sure so don't quote me on that. Also I belive the tsx was design on a double wishbone suspension, and was better handling then that of the rsx(therefore we see it more on the racing scene) but the honda use the same chassis to make the new civic? si/regular civic, someone correct me on this if im wrong.

Even if it was the Si with some red seats, they'll be able to make a lot of money slapping that "R" on it.

^^ Yeah, I drew a frame of a man running on each fan blade. That is him running at idle

I just reread the article, they say they are bringing the Euro R not the JDM version, but hope they changed their mind and import the sedan instead of the hatch, if they even bringing it over here!! But when different market import things to the United State, they have to meet United State strict safety and emission regulation, which sucks for the enthusiast like us, but it there for a purpose.

I personally think the euro hatch is ugly! but i like the jdm sedan better than the usdm. Mainly b/c of the headlights and tail lights. But its about time they brought a R back into the states!

    who says?

The civic type-r I believe quarter mile time is the same or beat the mustang gt. I dont have the offical quarter mile time of the FD2 but I do have a quarter mile time of a DC5 which was 14.3 sec. The mustang gt 1/4 mile time is 13.6 sec at 102, but in the video you see, (link) the DC5 v. FD2, the FD2 beat it. Also if you talking about circuit racing, the civic type r have already beaten(lap tme) a z05 corvette, 911 gt, r34 gtr. I believe the FD2 will beat the mustang anyday of the week on a track!! Here are the links for more info.

they do, their base model civic are cheap and reliable, the CTR is a race inspire version of the civic. base price for a civic is like 14-19g, and the si is only like 20-22g

I like how people are like "it's still a civic and i'm not paying 30k for it". Ok, I guess an ITR was not just a civic either but seriously, if Honda were to rebadge the new CTR as an Acura and as a replacement for the RSX, I bet people would be more than willing to pay 30k for it seeing as how ppl were paying ~25+ for a new RSX and for the ITR back then.

Take the Lexus IS300 for example, Europe and Japan been had that under the name Toyota Altezza/IS200. Yet, it came to America known as a "Lexus" with a n/a supra engine and people were willing to fork over well over 30k+ for it. Like dcteg2006 said, it's a race inspire version of the civic, it's not just a civic. If people were willing to pay like 25+ for a an ITR or a RSX, why not this car? I'm sure Honda's engineers have elevated throughout the year and it's faster than the ITR and the RSX?

IMO, the title "Civic" is just a name. This car isn't your eg/ek.. e..w/e/t/f. Different chassis from the previous models, so why not consider it a whole different car and not be prejudice based on the badging.
