Default Tired of breaking loose. Whats a good street tire.

Well i got rid of my old 17x7.5 and 18x8.5 rims with 235/35/18's b/c my car was breaking loose in 4th gear at over 100mph and i didnt like that ****. Now i have a set of 18x10 wheels with 275/40/18 and im still spinning all of 1st, and 2nd and most of 3rd. Ive changed up my suspension as well...i had jic flt a2 but they was way to stiff for the track. Now im running kyb agx's with tanabe springs. Whats a good sticky tire to run on the streets? But wont wear out fast as ****? Azenis maybe?

i think Azenis wear out pretty fast. I use yokohama es100 and pretty happy with it.

Bridgestone RE-01r. They last longer than the falkens and are about .7 sec faster on a 60 second track. in autocross we get about 140 runs on the falkens and about 170+ on the bridgestones. If u want a LOT of grip and dont plan on driving in the rain, i would get a set of Kumho V710's or Hoosier A6's (hoosiers cost more).

but like i was saying, bridgestones have been tested and are the fastest street tire with a tread wear rating of 140 and up. another tire to look out for is the new toy coming out in 2008. when it is shaved 3/32 it should be fast.

I'd say your suspension is too hard. That's not a lot of power (no offense).

i doubt the agx's are to hard...i can push my rear up and down. It's fairly soft. Now the JICS were wayyyyy to hard...i was breaking loose in 4th. And your right...it isnt now but im about to tune it and im shooting for 460-500whp

i would just run drag radials.. when i made 400 rwhp and i switched from regular street tires 255's... to 245's in drag radials, it made a huge difference. all that extra traction = more power

I still don't see how you could be "breaking loose" at 100 mph. It takes a lot of HP to do that. I know of plenty of cars with wayyyy more than 380 whp that won't "break loose" at 100 mph. I'm not trying to rain on the parade, but I just don't see how you're doing it unless you're driving on bald tires in the rain.

    Ok, FWD drag suspension 101.

When you have weight transfer to the rear of a FWD car, you loose traction.

You want the spring rates and dampening high and the rebound setting low for the rear to prevent transfer and provide a quick shift back.

In the front you want a lower spring rate, dampening lower and rebound higher.

You are almost correct, getting a fwd car to hook drag racing a more than just suspension. Its alignment, toe, camber, counter weight, ride height, etc... Just like a track car. But you do not want a low spring rate in the front or you will get wheel hop and it will be hard to control going down the track, and if return road isnt perfectly smooth you will probably shred your slicks or have to raise the front of the car and that messes with everything listed above. A lot of guys drag racing competitively are running 600lbs springs or so in the front and over even higher in the rear. Omnipower is a popular shock in the drag racing hondas b/c its a short stroke, large bore shock to eliminate as much travel as possible and the most rebound. That way when the car comes out of the hole on a slick the car comes up on the tire rather than shifting weight to the back of the car. As far as RWD, your on your own on that ****.

    Wanna quit breaking loose?

    Quit driving like a jackass.

    Done.

Fuck stance. Stance is for kids in skinny jeans with Justin Beiber haircuts. You don't need stance when you got swagger.

Your turbo must be coming in hard, b/c thats the only way I could see you spinning at 100 or your tach must be broken

I am sure you can clutch drop and just keep shifting until your tach says 100mph but I doubt your really going that fast.

Even then, with half bald tires, I'd be hard pressed to do it at any speed above like maybe 60 mph at best. After that, it's really just hydroplanning and not spinning. This is why I don't see how, with 380 HP, in the dry, rolling, at 100 mph.....you could "break loose".

    Just being honest.

As in MY car? Yes, you know it's a super porker and I do have some neg camber in the rear....BUT, I'm still hard pressed to see how 380 HP can break the tires loose at 100 mph.

I know your car silly...i mean his! I assume a 240 judging by sig, if he's rockin' negative 2° to 3° camber with that wide of a tire then he's not getting much of a contact patch...on a car that's 1,000 lbs lighter.

my car was slammed at the time this happend. Now it's about a 1 inch drop with no camber at all.

BTW, is this a DD or a track purpose car? If it's anything that you put any kind of decent mileage on, you'll not be too happy with what you get out of a drag tire. They will stick, no doubt. But they also won't last very long either.
