Yes I have. But I have heard of all the old guys...I was alive then.

There was a 3 hour endurance race at Road Atlanta during the recent ARRC. It featured various types of IT (improved touring) cars including V8 Mustangs. Those cars were quite fast and turned good lap times but heavy fast cars tend to use up brakes. Also, being of standard Ford quality offers other issues. In the end a Miata won overall...which isnt unusual in my SCCA experience.
Being agile, light, and able to maintain speed through corners and run consistent lap times without mechanical failures is everything in that kind of racing. The Miata is a world class sports car car perfectly suited for just that.
A Neon on the otherhand is a car well suited to unemployed redneck trailer park life.

As for an 81 Fireturd...those were built during an era of heavy pig underpowered slowassness. Although any car, including one of those, can be built to go fast, it wouldnt be the greatest platform for road racing....unless youre racing other heavy pigs of the same type and era.
