yeah, I'd avoid the rotaries. a unique motor but not the most reliable. don't get me wrong I love Rx7's. But don't do it if you don't have the time or money for the upkeep.
I think you should go with an option E, an option that would make you happy and give you the reliability that you are going for.

there are other fun cars out there that are inexpensive and provide a great options as to what you want to do with them. Ie. BMW2002's or 240sx's or even a Great little 95 Honda civic, (I have a friends that handles like you wouldn't believe and a have yet to ride in a car as fun as his).
Personally I'd take a 95 (newer are ugly IMO) civic with a stiff suspension and rock the jeebers out of it up the side of a mountain. for all that you are looking @ or around like what 5-6K... plenty of cash to put in a CD.

for a good working Rx7 you'll pay what... 12-15K right? wasn't it Mainstream that was saying they'll get you a 240 with a 2jz swap for like 10K out the door? lol... ok so that’s not a good Idea but it's what will make you happy right?
