    Default Machine shop recommendations

    What machine shops do you guys recommend to do work to my head? I am looking for local prefferibly. I need new vavle guides pressed in, which I already have, and my new vavles seats cut, and lapped.

    Also what do ou guys think it will cost, the quotes that I have gotten so far seem pretty high( around $300). Let me know what you think.

    scott is backed up like a mofo right now had my gsr block for a hot tank bore hone and block gaurd install for like 2 months now but i put up with it because hes **** is always right. he charged me last time like 220 or when i did a b16 head with ferrea guides and valves. pretty much the same **** i just sold u.

    yeah, they told me about a week turn around, and it would be $130, for the valve guide installation, and $160 for the valves lapped and seated. The guy on the phone pretty much said to bring $300 to be safe. I just thought that was a little high.

    yea I had to take my totally INCOMPLETE head back up there, but yea I would definitely recommend Scott, fully worked and assembled my head in less than a week.

    Cool, thanks for the input, but does that pric sound right? I had work done there about 3 years ago and I don't remember it being that high. I know times change and prices do with the economy, but my buddies are getting the same work done for about $200 up there.

    I never had a problem with Scotts when i did HONDA machine work, i cant vouch for his V8 stuff.

    The best place i have found is Ball Engine and Machine. Its in lilburn an their phone number and address is listed in the GENERAL TECH: MACHINE SHOP DIRECTORY thread.

    Expect to pay $80-90/hour for a machinist, and no, $300 sounds about right to do guides, seats and lapping

    yeah this place is right up the street from me. i havent had anything done there yet but i plan on paying him a visit. what all do they do there. i know they can bore/hone block etc and head work. can they install sleeves?

    Gotta put a plug in for the shop where I work:

    Engine Systems in Tucker. Mostly specializing in carbed American V8's. Small and big block Chevys and Fords, big block Hemis. Machine shop, engine dyno, welding. Whatever.

    The owner of AAM stops by the shop every now and then. One of the guys I work with used to be an engine builder there as well. They're good guys too.

    I've personally only had a few dealings with AAM. But, what they did for me was enough for me to shoot an advertising plug out. It usually takes more than regular ole service for me to recomend anybody...
