    Default wheel polishing question?!!

alright im polishing my raze r74's

just following the right up on HT
as you can see from the pic, the wheels already have a polished lip
and when i stripped the paint i got some spots on the lip that clear coat came off
so my question is how many of you guys that have polished wheels put clear coat on the entire wheel once there polished?
cause if i dont have to polish the lip over again i dont really want to
and i realize there are a few other wheels polishing threads just didnt wanna jack one of them with a big post like this.
any responses will be greatly apreiciated

I think you have to remove the clear on the lip because the polish is going to be two different polished colors I think. Not an expert but I think thats whats gonna happen.

Ive done a few sets of wheels before. What you need to do is dismount the tire from the wheel and spray the ENTIRE wheel with clear coat. Are you stripping the bronze off the wheel or just polishing the lip? As soon as you start sanding on metal, you expose it to moisture in the air. thats why you need a layer of clear on it

Yeah, he's stripping the bronze and then polishing the whole thing...and he wants to know if he's going to have to repolish or reclear the lip since it got hit by the paint stripper.

I don't think you actually put clear on the wheels when you're done polishing. I think you just the Aluminum polish and polish the hell out of it to make it shiny and that keeps it from moisture or whatever.

Polish them w/ aluminum or mag polish or whatever and then clear them. that way all you'll have to clean is brake dust. all major wheel mfg. companies clear coat their wheels either with clear paint or w/ clear powder coat. trust me on this

Lol yeah, do what he says. Its a pain in the ass to paint with tires on, or do anything with wheels when tires are on.

yeah some people use, some don't. I wouldn't just cause I like it that way, but some say its easier to clean that way.

dont clear coat it, polish it up real well and then buff it for its final finish, thats how many people get the mirror faced finish, i know ive done it before just take your time and youll be amazed

And if you want your finish to fade later on, dont clear coat it!
