I think a LOT of greed and hunger for power would go away with a system like this. I can't say for sure, but in a resource-based system there just wouldn't be any room for it.

Think about someone you would consider an "angry" person...hell, it can be yourself. Now, change absolutely nothing about yourself but removing the things out of your life that piss you off.....asshole drivers, bums bugging you for change in the parking lot, rude people holding up lines at restaurants, etc. What if they all magically disappeared? Would you be a different person? No. Would you still be an angry person? Difficult question...because you're the same, but there aren't certain things in your life that trigger this emotion.

Same thing applies for humans in general. A lot of the arguments out there are nature vs. nurture. Peter Joseph believes everything is pretty much 100% nurture, that we are products of our own surroundings. I believe it's both. I think we are born with instincts that don't change no matter what the situation, and I think we are also born with other emotions that we cannot change about ourselves, but might not experience if we are not put in certain situations.

Greed, jealousy, and anger would be all but gone....not because they "disappear," but the situation that brings this out in all of us would be gone.

Think about what MOST crimes are about. Theft, assault/murder, drugs. There is something to be gained from nearly 100% of the crimes people commit...that's why they do them. You take away money and power...there would be no incentive whatsoever to steal from someone. You take away social and economic status and power given to certain individuals, and there is hardly any reason to become angry at or jealous of someone. You let people LIVE FREE instead of keeping them in a life of servitude to what these powerful people THINK we should all be doing, as well as removing money and "power" from society, and there's not nearly as much desire to rebel or "get away" from reality by doing drugs, nor is there any monetary or power to be gained by dealing them.

Basically, you trust people and give them the CHANCE to succeed on their own instead of trying to control them with notions of good and evil and laws.....you trust in yourself, and humanity in general, and you might just find out the true potential that we as a species are born with.

That's a good way to assume things, but how can you say greed, anger and jealousy will not be there in this new world? Do you think those three emotions are only triggered by stuff like stupid drivers and bums? I don't think so, he is trying to create a world in which there will be no monetary system and everything will be self-sustainable. There is still room for emotions. There will still be crimes, but they would have probably dropped drastically. Since people will not be forced to commit crimes to put food on their table, I am thinking most crimes would be committed in this new world would be because of pure hate or jealousy. Just as technology would be taken to a new level, I also think a lot of other things would as well.

Our society is setup now, where the most rich and powerful live the best lives (at least that's what we're exposed to). Therefore, you give people this desire....and that desire can turn to envy and anger, when you see others having what you want.

You have a system where there isn't a social hierarchy, and there really is just no reason to be jealous of someone in a LOT of cases. There will still be jealousy over better looking people, or people with better personality traits.....getting a girl you want, etc. So I don't think it will be eliminated. However, these...."bad" traits that we possess, are currently EXPLOITED by our social system. This Venus Project idea tries to take focus away from that.

I personally believe that greed, anger, jealousy and other things could also be inflated by stress. Maybe I'm not so pissed off or greedy, but if my life goes to shit I may all of a sudden get pissed off at people who are making good money and/or have a beautiful wife and kids. Lower tension, in general, will help people cope MUCH better with things that may irritate them, I believe. There'd just be a LOT more stuff to focus on, and people wouldn't be so consumed by this stuff.

Oh I completely agree that greed anger, and jealousy are presently inflated by stress in the political and social system. However in Venus project world, where mostly everyone will have equal facilities and amenities, more of the stress will be focused on the social life. Crimes may still be committed by people simply being jealous, even though there is a very low stress level in this world compared to Earth. Who really knows though, it currently is just a theory...a very detailed one though.
