You can take this for whatever you think its worth, but you arent going to make anywhere near enough power with the setup you had pictured to justify a powerglide. Actually to be more specific you arent going to make enough torque.

It takes a huge amount of power to make a power glide neccesary. The turbo mustang guys usally dont even run them until they get close to 1300hp.

I would stick with a TH400

If it made a full second of a difference when racing with a 'glide over the factory 5 speed tranny, I think that justifies it enough. But hey, it's his car, so I say let him do what he wants.
