    I do have a finite budget to work with. I liked the 70-300 lens but I just was not sure if it is a quality lens or just one that offers more zoom. This Canon is my first camera that offers more than point and shoot type pictures.

    You did give me some more ideas and I will see what I can price the 70-200 F4L (even though it has less zoom it appears to have more focal length)?

    With autocross you wouldn't need to shoot less than f/4 anyways, most likely being f/5.6+ depending on how bright it is and 200mm is plenty of length for cone dodging. :my2pixels:
