Its a whole interpretation theory. It is all about how you interpret it. And in some ways, there is exactly that kind of stuff in the Bible.

In John 2:22 is says "Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son."

So basically in the Bible it says anyone who isn't Christian is the Anti-Christ. I guess there are other ways to interpret that, sorta the same thing is happening in the Quran.

I am not an expert, but the controversial 6th Pillar of Islam is I believe what you are refering to. There are many ways to interpret the word jihad. For many, it is a struggle to better yourself within. For others, it describes war against people only who oppress and fight you, as in self defense. Others view it as expansion of Islam through words. Others view it as struggle with non-believers. That could mean non-muslims, or it could mean non-believers... as in NOT christians and jews, because they are 'believers'. It also describes that you shouldnt use violence agaisnt women, children, non-combatants, POWs... ect.

So when people go to other countries to blow up innocent people, they are actually taking a very retarded fundementalist view of a few lines of text.
