Only 33% of Mazda is owned by Ford, and the sale was made 1991, my car is a 1987, Ford only supplies the base(worst) engines in the Mazda3 and Mazda6 and share a few electrical components.

Actually, those engines was built by Ford, but designed by Mazda and Cosworth. In stock form, they hold 13 lbs of boost. Cosworth makes all motor parts which gets over 200whp. Those motors (2.0L & 2.3L) is by no means crap.
