When did "time attack" come to the US? Volk started their "limited edition time attack" in 2006. Mugen RNR's have been around with that color scheme for YEARS. Hell, even the Rota Group N's have had that color scheme for at least 4 years

time attack has been a thing to do for a LONG time. i'm sure it was very popular when the RNR's came out... i had seen them before on the road. and volk blah blah blah... the time attack is all rice to be now... i don't even like the VOLK editions now... don't you dare go there with that pile of rice i see coming out of your mouth and onto that keyboard lol

I don't really have a problem so much with color matched lips (although I'd take solid black over a lip anyday), I just generally don't like wheels that involve red on a car that doesn't. Same thing goes for all of the hondas with red wheels and polished lips. I just think it looks hideous.

IMO, time attack is direct copy of the Biker wheels. So if you start calling imitation rice, then those TA Volks should be considered rice as well.

What I like are wheels that look good in Time Attack style (black wheels with "colored" lip).

There are some wheels that can pull it off very nice, some just look plain stupid. It's just depend on the wheel's style.

This includes ALL WHEELS in the market, not the expensive Rays Engineering wheels, Iforged, HRE, etc. nor Rota, Konig, etc.

Those are all reasons for this thread. +5 for understanding.

Stock body car + painted wheels does not make a nice car. People need to get skirts, lip, bumper, whatever, and then some nice wheels.

I got those wheels a few years ago. The car they were on has been gone since early this year and I had them on there almost the entire time I owned it. They were professionally painted, by well known shop. I searched high and low for wheels that came with a red lip but could not find a single set that was a 17" 4x100. No one made them then but now is a different story. (I did find one or two pairs in 18" or in the wrong bolt pattern but they were not cheap and very few and far between).

I totally agree that painting your stock wheels to copy aftermarket wheels is pretty stupid... especially some half assed spray paint job. I wouldn't put anything on my car that didn't look professional. If you want new wheels, save some money and get some.

Also, I believe in looking at more than just the wheels, look at the whole car. Time attack wheels look like crap on some cars because the style doesn't fit or the color looks awful with red. Like the blue a few posts up.... EW... nice car, nice wheels, but the two do not look right together. You don't have to get something trendy just to be trendy... get what fits your car.

My time attack wheels have been retired. I like to have things that are a little different and it was time for a change. I got tons of compliments on them though. We may see them a lot more often in the car community, but most people on the street rarely see wheels like that.

"Time attack" editions of Volk and Work wheels didn't come out until 2007 (pre-sale in 2006). The Mugen RNR had them years before when the "time attack" wasn't even known outside of the event in Japan. I'm positive


As for people doing it themselves, the red could be easily done with automotive pinstriping yet nobody ever thinks about doing it that way

Cheap wheels + paint does NOT equal nice wheels.

They aren't edgy or original, it's just ugly. It's not unique to color match your wheels to your car. Save your money and buy some real wheels.

I'm not bitter about being slow. I'm in no hurry.

As for personal opinion, personal opinion causes rice. People are entitled to their own opinions, but this trend is lame. Not necessarily riced, but its played and not creative.

Def save your money, theres nothing like owning/riding on real wheels. As for the mesh deal, unless there the jdm racing sparco meshies, even if they are a dime a dozen in japan, and very cheap, they are none the less real and always fresh because of just that.
