Paid $15k for it in 2003 when the blue/black book was still over $18k, the car was $22k new in 2001. I put a brand new, 0 mileage, Integra Type-R long block in it in 2004. Total cost was a little over $4k including a Cusco flywheel, Skunk2 intake manifold, and performance clutch. (The B18c5 longblock MSRP + labor would have been $9,000 dealer installed in 2004 so I got a killer deal.) Tein Flex Coil-over dampeners $1,500. OEM ITR LSD, a steal at $250+. Custom made Porsche brake kit $1,000. Shaved the molding, put on OEM optional side skirts that took me 18 months to find, then covered with fresh single stage urethane paint baked on for over 48 hrs $$$. How about the three times I built the spoiler & splitter due to uncontrollable circumstances: possum, rail-road track construction, and someone else driving it that's never piloted a car with 2" of clearance (material cost $$$). I've run both the '94-97 front and the '98+ front end, fresh bumpers for each...owning both sets of headlights as well....should I keep going? lol!
To think I test drove a 99k mile NSX in 2003 and almost bought it for under $20k but getting a loan for a 12 year old car wasn't gonna happen and the interest on a personal loan was wayyyyy too high. I also made a promise to myself a year before, after owning a Z32 300zx for 4 years, that I would never own another high performance sports car unless I had $50k liquid assets available. I only bought the Integra because the payment and insurance was less than what I was spending on gas commuting to Atlanta in my Land Rover running premium @ 13mpg. Of course I can't leave anything alone and just had to build it, joining a race team didn't help either lol!
I have literally 1/20th of that into the BMW today and it will be faster in a straight line than the Integra...as soon as I finish the wire harness and get the rest put together anyways lol! It will cost an additional $2,500+ in good suspension and wheel & tire deals to get it to handle as well though. Then I'll have $4-5k invested into the turbo setup. $8-10k investment for a solid 400+whp car isn't too bad when it has touring car handling and I don't have to worry about someone stealing it because it's an ugly old emissions exempt boxy German car with dirt cheap insurance rocking an antique tag ha.
