Are you guys serious right now? Its obviously a show car, the car will never see the hot side of the tarmac in its life. Get over it
So?? It doesn't even look good. I guess you like rice...
OH LAWDS.... LMAO would love to see the tech inspector's face at any track with that one. I say, roll it and see what happens. Or let it take a 80mph t-bone.... either way...
Still doesn't change the fact that it's unsafe. If being anal about safety makes me conceited, then I'm that arrogant prick you never want to meet.Originally Posted by hotshot

What sanctioning body is this cage for? Just wondering because of the welds in the corners of the main hoop and the bolt together sections. Is it for a road race application?

If its not being driven, what does it not being safe have to do with anything?Originally Posted by AFSil80

Fact is, a roll cage is meant to save the occupant's life in the case of an on-course accident. It's not there to look pretty, flashy, or let you hang your stuffed animals up.

Its a show car
I honestly dont know a shitty cage from a spectacular awesome cage. But im not stupid enough to put a couple pieces of conduit in the back of my car and call it a cage. If I think im gonna go start auto-xing, I will go pay the money to have one built
It doesn't matter! Some stupid 16 year old kid is gonna see it, and think that those parallel bars running by the rear windows will actually serve a purpose! I know this may sound far-fetched to some, but there are idiot 18 year old kids out there with welders attempting to install roll cages with NO KNOWLEDGE on how to properly do it. They see shit like this, and they think it's the proper way to do it.Originally Posted by hotshot
Shitty examples like this DO NOT PROMOTE SAFETY! That's my problem with it. It's not a matter of 'getting over it,' it's a matter of educating those who don't know any better. Which leads to...
You're at least a step or two ahead of the idiot that owns the car in the OP, haha.I honestly dont know a shitty cage from a spectacular awesome cage. Yes, well not road RACE but time trials and track day car, I don't think any road racing classes allow any bolt in cages of any form anymore.Originally Posted by jjmastertech
Oh, ok. I didnt think that there was any sanctioning body that would allow bolt ins either. And to go along with the stuff that AFSIL80 is saying, a roll cage in a street car can be unsafe (possibility of hitting your head on a piece of roll bar)and a crappy roll cage is def not safe(breaks apart and impales or worse the occupants). AFSIL80 has seen some safe quality roll cages constructed so he knows what he is talking about.Originally Posted by simontibbett

Racing harnesses (4 or 5 point) are not allowed on the street right?
I know its off topic but i was wondering because a poor cage would also not allow for proper placement of harnesses.
I've never had a cop mention it to me and I have a 5 point.Originally Posted by EJ25RUN

LMAO!! EPIC FAIL!
Just to play devils advocate, how is that show "cage" any different than the chrome hoop "style bar" as Mazda calls it that was available as a stock factory option on a Miata? At least Honda has never offered a COSMETIC "roll bar", this is just an idiot that doesn't know any better. What's worse, an idiot with a show car that doesn't know any better or a manufacturer selling 1,000's to idiots that don't know any better
How about these aftermarket ones? What happens when an owner rolls and this thing folds over their head? A hoop is useless for anything other than trapping and/or strangling the occupants if it doesn't have perpendicular support.

The hoop isn't welded, that's the perpendicular bars going to the back.Originally Posted by jjmastertech

"SCHROTH street legal harness belts are unique in their ability to be installed to factory provided mounting points along with the factory provided seat belts. SCHROTH harness belts meet all certification requirements by the German TÜV, ECE-R 16.04 and US-DOT FMVSS 209 for use on public roads. Each belt comes with complete installation and operating instructions. If your vehicle is listed in the included Vehicle Reference List the installation has been tested and appoved with the stock seat or the listed aftermarket seats.
SCHROTH QuickFit harnessbelts have the make and model of the applicable car printed on the tail strap label.
Unlike most other aftermarket harness belts, most SCHROTH street legal harness belts have a unique disconnect feature between the front part of the harness and the rear tail strap. When you are not using the SCHROTH street legal harness belts, they can be stored out of the way allowing complete access for all passengers and full use of all factory seat belts."
I thought that was the case with them being illegal.
Is the only reason this particular one is legal have to do with it allowing the use of oem seatbelts?

i can't tell if there's a forward hoop in that 'proper cage' pic. is there?
