I havent watched the video but I have seen some fast NA K series hatches. The only that I remember made abot 240whp and was doing pretty well in hwy pulls against a c5 z06. I think the hatch stayed ahead of the z06 1 time and all the rest were verry close, but anything over 120mph in a civc you better have some power to compensate for the wind drag. If you want I will see about posting that video.
I think mike drove my hatch when I had it, it was pretty fast but not really anything spectacular. Had I invested money into getting an LSD and other things that it probably would have made a big difference. I only did a few hwy rolls with some friends, and I hung with a evo9 rs with full exhaust (both had passengers) and smoked the ever living dog shite out of Black R's Type R ef hatch (only I had a passenger). Only tuning I had in the car was an hour with chunky. I dont know how much it is to do a K sawp now but I did mine a the end of 04 and it was right at $8k to put a STOCK k20a2, stock non lsd tranny, stock clutch, budget header, K pro, Hasport mounts, DSS stage 1 axles (cheapest you could get and no one knew about the OEM combo yet.) Wiring harness, fuel lines, clutch line, fuel rail,etc... and not to mention being nickle and dimed to death. The car went 13.2 @106mph and that was the 1 and only pass I made on slicks. Next pass I sheered an axle. 12's were attainable, but back then it wasnt worth the money. I just wanted to be the 1st!
I have seen some people throw around that its easy to make 280-300whp in a K series. You guys are dead wrong, it is EASIER to do than a B series but its not easy by any means. I had everything needed to make a big power NA K motor, then I realised how much of a waste of money it would be. I had, 13.5:1 compression pistons, crower rods, GE sleeved block, skunk2 stage 3 cams, etc... I sold every last bit of it. The guy I bought a lot of it from made 260whp in his wifes k20 hatch that had ITB's, shitty Crower stage 2 cam and the bottom end that I have listed. The car still ran low 11's on 24.5" slicks.
I didnt see much front end movement on the supra while "shifting"
