just out of curiosity and no knowledg of toyota, would a supra motor/drivetrain go right in without any real modifications?
The 7M-GE is actually a Supra motor from the MKIII Supra. But it's the non-turbo Supra.
So, to answer your question YES, should be a piece of cake for a 7M-GTE (Supra turbo) motor to fit perfectly in the bay. The only thing you'd have to do would be wiring. The transmission would bolt up just fine.
Other options would be the 1JZ-GTE out of the MKIII Supra as well. People say it's a better/stronger motor than the 7M-GTE due to the fact that it doesn't go through headgaskets as easily. That should fit right in as well, but might need some minor mods (experienced people, please chim in here) and would have to re-wire.
Another option is the 2JZ-GTE from MKIV Supra. This could be done as well with some more modification and wiring.
But the engine bay is big enough for quite a lot to fit, the only thing would be making sure the motor mounts and other things are good to go.
Hope that helps...thanks!!
awesome project
The 1jz is a bad ass motor but you can ask the guys at cool cat it is a very tedious swap just in a mkIII supra because of the wiring and a bunch of small stuff. They dont really want to do the swap anymore b/c of the time commitment. However 4 door drift cars are the big thing in J-Pan so I assume they will be here soon enough.
Great information! I appreciate that!Originally Posted by Capt._Ron

good car, I used to have two of these, a brown 86 and a white 89
make good DD's in good condition.
price is a tad high IMO
years ago, i sold my running 89 for 700 bux (fully loaded, leather, sunroof, electronically controlled transmission, etc)(bad-tranny was starting to slip,) to someone in my neighborhood and i still see it driving around on occasion.

Thanks for the comments fellas.
Bump it up!
the 7mgte is fine. get bigger diamiter ARP headstuds, drill out and retap the holes for the headstuds, and torque them to a reasonable 85 ft lb instead of the oem spec 35 ft lb and you wont blow headgaskets.
bump for a cool car. too bad you probably lost misc bolts and shit using cardboard boxes and probably scratched the cam lobes all to hell. ill give you credit and say maybe you didnt lose the bucket shims and labeled them all properly. but looking at the pictures i doubt it.
.... man i'd be up for this if i wasnt so damn broke after christmas.
