As for cheap cars being sticky in the corners imagine the look on peoples faces when what appears to be a mid-80s Honda Accord is passing them on the inside lane without showing any sign of instability.

Corollas are slow as piss in a straight line, but put fat sticky tires on one with even light suspension mods and they'll stick to the road better than most Mustangs. I think it also has to do with the fact that since I have a 14 inch rim I can afford to run as sticky a street tire as I can without it being terribly expensive, where as most car owners are a little more concerned with getting some life out of their tires.
