We're talking about buying a car new in 2003 then spending only 5k. The evo 8 would beat any 03 cobra with 5k dropped into it if your dropping the same amount junto the evo plus I'd have 11k or so to spare. That's our debate.

Ok, let's be realistic about it then. In 2003, the Evo cost $30K, and there weren't many shops in GA that knew how to mod it. Additionally, they all charged an arm and a leg then on them. Basically, your $5K wouldn't get you what it will now.
If you want to play the game of getting a 2003 now, and then dumping in $5K, you can go a lot faster now.

Evo 8 with basic mods runs around 11.6 at 117mph, and the mods run about $2500.

03-04 Cobra Terminators run 11.90 with only rear Draglights w/ 26-10.5 ET Streets. Most guys spent less than $1500 to make 450+hp and 450+tq - back in 2003-2005. You couldn't do that back then with the Evo 8. I know - I wanted one then (and still would like to have one now).
Yes, I like the Evo, and wouldn't mind having one, but to be honest, you can just make a lot more power for a lot less money with a Mustang.
