The v6s run around 14 flat at 100 or so. V8s will dip into the mid-high 12s with a decent launch. They're pig heavy and very tall geared, but the LS3 is a monster and responds incredibly to mods.

    New camaro = LS3

LS3 > Any other production motor in any car under $65k

It's a shame they're so heavy and come with those huge wheels stock. 17" DRs and skinnies literally save 100 pounds from the car and net 4-5 tenths at the strip. So sad.

Apples to apples. New hardware vs 7-8 year old hardware. Obv you could buy a gen 2 viper and beat the camaro... but it isn't because the 450bhp 650 pound behemoth V10 is a superior piece of hardware to the LS3, the viper is simply a vastly superior platform. The 1997 GTS in silver with blue stripes is one of my favorite cars EVER, but comparing a 10 year old GT to a modern 4 seater muscle car is kind of an irrelevant comparison. The LS3 is a far superior motor then what was put in the Gen II viper, but thats what 14 years of research get you. Again, I was only stating the engine is a gem, the camaro as a package leaves a lot to be desired.

LOLOl the viper engine is "vastly superior"? It's a 8.0L Pushrod engine. How is it superior? It is a 450hp/450-500tq engine. And they can be found for around 30K now.

I'm not the one to compare, you said LS3 > ANY 65K and under car. Wellllll a TEN year old out dated car is well under that and no where near the camaro's technology.

I am not in a pissing contest with you b/c your argument was pretty decent. You're not a fan boy, but you did contradict yourself a wee bit. But I do agree, the LS3 or LS line is a sick platform. A very well thought out engine and that has an immense amount of potential.

I'm a mopar boy. Looking for a SRT-8 Jeep right now.

No, the viper engine is not vastly superior. Re-read what I wrote, I think you took it out of context. The LS3 puts down 475 to the tires with a cam and headers which is rather impressive, seeing as thats a rough 100-125 rwhp increase for roughly $1250, and it remains reliable and streetable. When I said any 65k under, I meant any new car 65k and under. The only motor I can think of that would have a chance is the Turbo 335 motor, which isn't even a fair comparison because it's FI (and still not as powerful).

when did WS6s become the meca of all fbodies,i mean no offense to OP. Just something i've noticed lately,i mean really you make maybe 10-15whp more than a Z28 and have higher insurance.

None of the f-bodies were significantly faster then any of the rest of them in the ls1 days. A stripper z28 or trans-am would have been the fastest.

01-02 WS6 had favorable gear ratios available (3.73 rear option) and decent factory ram air CAI and exhaust. 01-02 was also the best year for the ls1, with the move favorable cam specs and head flow numbers. They were also, however, the heaviest of all the 4th gen 4bodies fully optioned. IMO they're the best looking of all the 4th gens, and the anniversary TA is especially nice in blue and white.

Yea,I know they got the little bolt on factory stuff. But you put the same style bolt ons a Z28 I bet it easily outruns the WS6,yea the 01-02 also got the LS6 intakes, which helps.

But I just dont see them as others do I guess.

No. The first year GTO had a slightly more aggressive cam grind and a better intake/exhaust/manifolds then the f-bodies. The corvette actually had the most aggressive cam (borderline insignificant difference) and the best manifolds of all the ls1 cars.

I went back through this thread and saw some misinformation that needs to be cleared up. I work part time in an LSX based shop so I figured I'd drop some knowledge for a second...

There was never a "3:73" option for F-bodies. Autos with a steel driveshaft got 2:73's, Autos with an alum driveshaft and/or "performance axle ratio" option got 3:23's, and ALL 6 speed cars got a 3:42. There is no such thing as a factory installed 3:73 geared car in a regular LS1 powered F-body. You are correct on the 01-02's being the best years, but everything else is incorrect. 01-02 cars actually got a SMALLER cam than the previous years to compensate for intake charge due to lack of the EGR valve. They came with 241 casting cylinder heads, that flow the exact same as all the other years. There's no such thing as "extra flow" from 01-02 cars. Furthermore, ALL 98-02 cars weigh within a certain range of each other. The Trans Ams weigh about 150lbs (on average) more than the Camaro's due to the heavier lumbar seats and pop up headlights, but there's no significance in weight difference from year to year.

LS1 GTO's got the same exact engine that 01-02 F-bodies got. Absolutely nothing is different, except the PCM controlling the engine.

No. Again, the cam is not "more aggressive" at all. 01-02 Fbody/04 GTO cams actually have less total duration than previous years, making it less aggressive.

The 241 heads are superior castings.
The 01-02 cam DOES have slightly less duration and lower total lift numbers, but its also ground with a more aggressive ramp profile, has more advance, and significanly less overlap (around four degrees difference).
The overlap change was what allowed for removal of the EGR, not the duration change.

You're right on the gears. Big oversight on my part.
