To the OP, the way your car sounds remind me of a gen1 Neon with intake and exhaust, which I thought sounded pretty good when you have the right exhaust.
BTW, a short shifter won't make the car any faster or chirp 3rd gear. Chirping 3rd gear in a vehicle with not alot of tq usually means A. your tires are worn or B. your alignment is out. I'm just saying.....
