    Default Computer keeps restarting

Ok so i have a HP Pavilion desktop computer that runs on Microsoft Windows XP. Recently I had to do a system recovery using my recovery disk. I ended up losing my microsoft office and a few other things that I needed. So, I reinstalled microsoft office and it said that i needed the microsoft service pack. I downloaded the microsoft service pack from the microsoft website. Things ran smoothly for a few weeks. Then recently i decided i'd run the defrag. For some reason it didn't start, so i ended up restarting my computer. Once i restarted it, the computer would get to the white HP start screen that has the "F1: Setup" and "F10: System recovery" options at the bottom, and the computer would just restart after that.

I tried running in all the save modes and choose the system recovery option, and the same thing would happen, it would just restart. I tried to run the start up beginning with the CDROM drive and had my system recover disc in it. The disc would read but then an error would come up that reads, "These system recovery CDs do NOT support this HP PC model" when I just used this damn CD for the last recovery. Now im stuck with a computer that just keeps on restarting.

Also, when i tried the Directory Services Restore Mode in the microsoft windows recovery console, it gave me the blue screen with
    Technical information:
    *** STOP: 0x00000024 (0x001901FF, 0x823846c8, 0xc0000102, 0x00000000)
    If that helps any...

If anyone has a solution or can help me in anyway, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks

I googled and couldn't find out what kind of error that is. At least the PC does post to an error. If your like me you just want the PC to work. Try reinstalling Windows fresh. I do it all the time and b/c i triple archive my data, no risk of losing precious data. Boot to CD and see if you can do a fresh install. For me most of the time it's not worth it to figure out when i have a ghost image and back online in 30 min flat. All my settings and software ready to roll...

Reinstall windows and you will lose all of your data. Unless you had partitions. Remember it's a rule to back up your data. Hard lesson to learn but when you lose precious pics or financial data...

Let me see if you i can find a diy write up...

ok i found this link. To get to that screen, press Delete or F2(i forget but i know what to do when i do it, lol). Sometimes it's F8 key.

You press that key just as you touch the power on button from a cold start. Follow the instructions and browse around in there. Once you set it, F10 to save and it should reboot. Try not to mess with other settings if you not quite sure what it does. Give it a try, lol.

You are getting that message because the HP CD's you have don't match the tattoo number on the motherboard. Its an HP thing.

Interesting. I build from the ground up and so i'm not exposed to OEM builds with recovery CDs. Well, ask a buddy to borrow a windows Xp disc and try to do a fresh install. If no can borrow, i am fresh out of options for you lol, Just short of techy friend or computer repair facility.

I suspect your motherboard is going bad. That error comes up on hp motherboards that havn't been tattooed. I see this occur when people replace their hp motherboard. It will always say you have the wrong discs until the motherboard it tattooed. I know you can find the software to do it online just don't remember where. The bigger issue is if your motherboard is going bad it may not fix the restore disc issue as the board will never take the tattoo. Have you tried any diagnostic tools yet to determine if any of your hardware is bad esp the mobo or memory?

No, haven't tried any diagnostic tools or anything else since I can't even get into my desktop screen...the computer restarts itself before it gets there...I tried all of the safe modes and the same thing happens...so right now im basically stuck with a computer that keeps restarting...only things I can get into are the F1 Setup screen and the F8 Startup options screen...

I once had a bad MOBO. The symptoms were so strange. It was a Abit brand and one day it would just barely get out of posting and error. I never figured out how it went bad and had the board for quite a while( 1 yr+).

backup all of your important files online before your mobo or another part craps out. I've had similar experiences until my hdd just suddenly died.

Could need a new PSU. I got the same message on one I pieced together. Just needed more wattage.
