    even trimmed OS can still be updated.plus if you're messing with windows,you can get serial keys and make it genuine microsoft without a problem.it doesn't update because it's not labeled with microsoft's bumper sticker that says "genuine microsoft product" and the update .exe has been removed from the folder(s).you can always go in and manually put it back in to get it updateable again.

    I'm aware of how windows update works, and it wasn't due to the update files being removed, WSUS knew that it was a trimmed version and could not update the required components to apply the patches (due to software trimmings).
