    Default MacBook resolution question

i was in the prefrences and accidently double clicked the displays icon and set the resolution to 800x600 or whatever, i switched it back to 1280x800 cause i think thats what it was before. but when it went to 8x6 i noticed it changed my background to some default picture. i tried to switch it back to my normal bacground and all my pictures are about half the size they were before. i cant blow them back up to normal cause it distorts them. anyone know how i can fix this, or are my pictures pernamently smaller? hopefully i still have them on my external hard drive, but if anyone knows what would cause this let me know. i even tried other resolutions to see if that would change it and they were still small.
