Ummm, people buy DLPs all the time. Get with the technology. The Texas Instrument chip, some would say, is greater than Plasma in terms of clarity and colors. Plasma, once you have burn in, has no real fix. It's VERY hard and expensive to fix a plasma if you can fix it at all.

LCD is nice, but a 65" LCD would run you...shit, so much money.

I get some tickets off and on as well, but I will definitely take you up on that as mine are hit and miss. My g/f has NEVER been to a college football game! Anytime you have extra tix and want to go, let me know. We'll pile into the Rover and tailgate.

i attatched some pictures of the TV my parents have at their home in new york. You should have looked into this tv for 1080p. Its a whole lot cheaper now than when it came out. They bought it about 8 months ago when it first came out, i think it was around $4600. I took these while we were setting everything up so the living room is a mess. I didnt get a chance to take better ones before flying back to my place here in atl.

Its a 60" Sony SXRD Liquid Crystal on Sylicone display. Full 1080i - 1080p up conversion. (even though you wont see true 1080p signals for yeeearrs)

    DLP is the shit....

The DLP display that travels the NASCAR circuit is one of the most impressive comparison's of entertainment I've ever seen.

Good choice going with DLP. Those of us in the know realize it's the only way to go.

It's a nice TV and all, but for the 1080p, you will still pay a high premium; a good bit more than what I spent on my Mitsu and I get a 65" over the 60".

You must have a very big living room for a 65" tv not to hurt your eyes. The living room at my parents place is set up where the recliners they sit in are about 15 feet back from the TV. and I will tell you at night with no lights on, the t.v. hurts my eyes beause it is so big.

The up-side to having the 60", if you keep going back behind the sofa and recliners you go up 2 stairs and it turns from carpeted to tile where there is a bar and a small table, then if you open up the sliding doors you go into the hot tub room. If you sit in the hot tub with the doors open the TV is big enough to see clearly, which is nice. I think that is why they went with the 60" instead of the 50". (it sounds tacky, but its actually very well designed, i have pics if anyones interested)

Yeah it is not good for your eyes you should have some cool ambience lighting behind the TV for good picture and to prevent eye strain

Not yet. I'll wait for the price to come down. I'm not dropping $800-1100 on an HD DVD player just yet. Couple that with the fact that you still have Blue Ray and HD DVD competing for the standard and any purchase might be silly right now.

I read in PC magazine, I think, that hd dvd players were in the $400-500's now, and that blueray was in the $1000's. Maybe, I misread that article.

I was actually looking at a Samsung 720p/1080i 60" (maybe it was 61" system) for like $1900. It looked great, but when I saw what 1080p looked like next to it, the 1080p system was much more clear. It made enough difference to me that opted for the more $$$ tv. That's your call, though.

Another thing that bothered me about the new Samsung 1080p systems was that the tv's bezel was a gloss black. The 1080i/720p systems were a matte black, but the 1080p series were all gloss. Not a fan of glass black on my tvs. Fingerprints get all over it and it is somewhat distracting. That's personal preference I guess.

Was it a 1080p dvd or a 1080p channel stream? AFAIK 1080p channels won't be around for another couple of years atleast, due to lack of proper bandwith.

If anyone in the topic is looking for a new tv, keep this in mind.

I was a salesman, on comission, for a high end T.V. retailer (wont say the name) in NY state before moving back here to Atlanta. I will tell you the truth strait up! We made sure certain T.V.'s looked better than others depending on how good they paid us. (i.e. hooking up a blu ray player to one, and a cheap dvd player to another...or having a good HD signal on one and a bad signal on the others) Make sure you shop many stores, and play around with settings, see what kind of signal is being put to the T.V.I know it sounds shitty, but you have to make sale's and money in your poket somehow. Even at places the sales-people dont get paid on comission, the managers will tell them to hook up a certain tv to a certain signal to increase sales in that brand...

For example, if there is a line of tv's set up, the signal probably starts at one end and is split over and over and ends at the other. If there is any comission involved at all, they will put the higher paying tv's on the stronger end of the signal, and put the others towards the end where the signal isnt as clear. Even if the brand isn't known as "the best". Just some advice
