Default Chevrolet Code 130R Concept. A Datsun 510/BMW 2002 for the new century or not?

GM's answer to the Datsun 510 and BMW 2002?

The introductory video for the car has a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS but in no way is that a good comparison.

Comparing it to past Chevy products, this is far closer to the Chevy Vega. The Vega was the wolf in sheep's clothing, the Chevelle was always the 800lb gorilla.

This is not made as it is a concept and the PT Cruiser stopped production in 2010. But, I see you don't like the aesthetics.

The 510 looks 100x better even as an old box style car im betting chevy backs out on hopes of ever producing that thing.

Why would they do that and miss the market the Scion FR-S and BRZ are in?

GM business model has always been sell anything to anybody. That means find whatever vehicle to suit a customer. In this case, a light, inexpensive, rear drive machine doesn't exist for them. Some of the motoring press has said this concept hints at the future Camaro but i really don't see how that could be. A Camaro buyer would refuse such a package. Look at what happened to the Nova past 1984. They should know not to make that mistake again.

Seriously... I would buy that before I bought a new Scion "86".

Strictly on the basis that Toyota could name a what I dropped in the bowl 3 minutes ago an "86", and kids would buy it. Chevy (although government owned) seems like they are moving in the right direction and making cars people WANT to buy.

Of course, I do hold reservations until I hear more info on it (as this is the first I've heard of this car). If this is a FF hunk-o-crap shitbox then I will retract my statement.

Edit: Just read it is RWD...

It's my understanding that the scion fr-s and brz are no longer going to be put into production?

Back on topic...for some reason GM has a very hard time making a good competitive compact car that consumers want to buy. If this made it to production I think it would be sub par automobile like the cavalier, cobalt, and cruze that precede it.

The car looks like the offspring of a Camaro and a BMW 1 series.

This. The 86 triplets are good to go.

I think that this is a sure-fire win as a niche car for Chevy. The FR-S is going to be a pretty unique car in the market as the only affordable compact non-convertible RWD, and it needs competition. I think that American loving enthusiasts will see this as the new-Vega and be all over it.

The Cruze is not a sub-par vehicle and the Cobalt SS was certainly a contender in the performance department.

That's an insult to a 510 and the 2002 to say it takes after those. I don't see it at all. Later, QD.

I like it, but it definitely looks better with different color wheels.

I think I'd rather see Chevrolet build this though....

Only affordable compact rwd coupe? There is a such as a Hyundai genesis coupe which has a msrp of 22K...pretty affordable. American companies haven't had much success in the compact class in the states...I doubt that's going to change soon.

The cruze is sub par compared to its competitors(civic, mazda 2, corolla) as I've read in several publications and editorials. As far as the cobalt ss goes, it was a decent attempt for GM's first car aimed at car enthusiasts, but it didn't sell well which is why it stopped production 2 years ago.

I wasn't 100% sure about that statement which is why I ended it with a question mark. I just looked it up and i was wrong, look like it's ready to go on sale here in a couple months.

BTW, you may or many not remember me as "nissantun3r" from back in the day.

The Genesis is not compact in any way, shape, or form.

A Corolla beat out a new Cruze? In what publication?

First thing that comes to mind is the motor trend article I read a couple issues ago comparing several new small compact cars and the hyundai elantra, civic, and corrolla all beat the cruze. I believe the focus did as well.

Focus I can definitely see, as well as the Civic and the Elantra, but the Corolla has largely been an also-ran in the segment for the past ten years as far as quality goes.

The corolla is very reliable and affordable and has a GREAT reputation behind it which is why it sells so well. Chevy has struggled, to say the least, in making a competitive compact car....for a very long time.

I'm not a chevy hater, I like the malibu, tahoe, and corvette of course, but we'll have to wait and see if this will be good.

I don't see it either but then again in a weird perspective, it resembles the new 1 series.
