Bike is way too fast for your first bike.
You won't be able to flat-foot it, but a decent rider could ride it without an issue.
Since you are inexperienced, you may drop it.

Lowering the bike reduces ground clearance. Unless you ride in a straight line only, there is no use in doing that.

Regardless of if it's been setup for him or not lowering the bike reduces lean angle, which for me atleast is a no-no.

5' 6" You'll be one footing. If it's your first bike insurance will be ridiculous. WAYYY too fast for a learner bike anyway. I say pass on it.

Suspension on the 1000 is adjustable, and the stock suspension is not very far off from his weight.

Lean angle for him would not matter, considering he's a noob.. And I know it's adjustable for someone who knows how to do it, but a 1000 is a bit much to learn on..

If I head up Saturday, I'll be up there by around 8am. I'll be taking it really easy and slow this time (have a purpose for that specifically).

1000cc is only as fast as you twist the throttle.

However, for your first bike you will twist too hard, be too short, and wreck. Find a 600cc or something. Better yet....buy my bike. It's lowered and stretched and perfect for you.

thanks for response guys. I got the bike regardless though. i just coudln't pass. i can touch both of my feet without having to tippy toe on my toenails so its a good thing. It rides pretty smooth and easy to drive. kinda slow for my taste but ehh i guess i can live with it.

but yeah i'm jp of course, i ended up with a ducati monster dark instead. Which is perfect for me i believe. bike is so sexy.

i would have to agree with everyone else here. get a 600 or a 750. I actually think you will have more fun on a 600 than a 1000 any day. I have had the most fun on 600 than any other bike.

My brother told me the same thing when he had my 600 for a couple of days. He'd much rather have mine than his 1600 Warrior.

I LOVED my 1k for hauling ass on straight roads, long sweeping turns, etc. but on the tighter backroad stuff I was 100% faster on my buddies GSXR600. My next bike will probably be a GSXR750 for a nice happy medium.

My next bike is either going to be a Ducati 848 or a KTM RC8 if I can pull either off.

If you think a 1000cc bike is scary, you don't need one to begin with. No room to be scared. Just get on it and go.

My first bike was an r1 never dropped it and I haven't looked back. A bikes only as fast as the rider on the seat. But I guess I'm in the 1% cause most people who get 1ks for their first bikes do in fact get cocky and wreck them. I remember when I punched the throttle the first time and the front end came up. I've been addicted to that feeling ever since

They make 1000cc sport bikes now that have adjustable power settings so if you're responsible enough to leave it on a moderate power setting there really is nothing wrong with getting a 1000 as your first bike. My first bike was a 04 ZX12R and I loved it. I probably did come close to killing myself a few times but I'm fine now. But yeah it's probably just best that you get a smaller bike to start out with if you're not getting one such as what I've mentioned above.

My first bike was an 07 cbr 1000 w full exhaust and a power commander dont let everyone fool u like the guy said above if you have brain power then dont even think about rolling on it until you have some time on the seat. They come up quick and a little too easy other than that they are great bikes

As I have said before, a bike is only as fast as your self control and how hard you twist that throttle.
