    Default Balanced Peroformace

I went to Balanced to get my car worked on. They said that it would be a 3-4 hour job. I had told them to look in to doing some little extra things, they said ok and that they would call me with a price one they got into the car. They said that the labor would be $85 per hour. So i was thinking that it would be a price around $300-$400, with parts. I never got a phone call, until the day that it was done, it turned out to be $1200 plus dollars. My thing is that i never got a phone call with a price on anything that was done, until it was all done. To add to it the Manager (AKA Supervisor, shop worker) gave both me and my wife the runaround. Any way to make a long story short, he finally said that he didn't want to deal with my car any more and supposedly cut a $1200 bill down to $660. Everything i guess kind of worked, even though the job that was down wasn't the the greatest. I wasn't to happy on some of the welding that was done.

$1200 for IC piping and to mount an IC? Fabricate a DP?

Did you have all the parts? if you did thats kinda steep.

If you had a BOLT ON KIT, an a DP fabbed i can see it being $400-500 (figure 2-3 hours for the IC kit to be put on, bumper trimmed, $200 for a DP)

If you had a universal kit, i can see it costing upwards for $700-1000 to have it fabbed an put on.

But you are right, they should have called you. Did you sign and estimate?

Usually they need to tell you an ESTIMATE up front, and if they go over that you call the customer.

EDIT: danny leave the shop bashing out of this . No need to start crap.

The OP needs to post more detailed info.

According to your post, they supplied all the parts. Hmmm whens the last time you priced piping for anything?
I knwo back in the day we could get all the piping from JC whitney for like a 100, not anymore pricing went way up, I would say doing te intercooler piping , along with flanges , clamps and all it wasnt cheap to start with...

Same with the down pipe just the turbo flange alone is 30.00

I agree, if he had them do IC piping, Clamps, Couplers, DP, etc with INSTALL i can see it being in the $1000-1200 range, especially at Balanced Performance (they do charge more than average shops)

Im inclined to agree with Danny that if Peter did the work he doesnt usually rush stuff and he does weld pretty well.

Sorry you were unhappy. Next time you need to get an estimate in writing BEFORE you drop the car off

Well i just talked to Peter and i asked about your car, he stated when you took the car up there the only thing installed was the turbo, and Manifold. They installed the rest of the kit for you. He mad e a Down Pipe, all intercooler piping, dump tubes, and fixed all your vacumme problems.

He stated when you dropped the car off at 1st you wanted a Down pipie made, and they quoted you 300 and parts just for that, then you called back wanting the intercooler piping and all made for it. he said he spent about a day and half working on your car.

And the reason he let the car go for 660 was becasue he was tired of hearing you crying about it, and your wife was really upset. He stated there was no reason too call you, that you called up there plenty of times. And they told you it was 85 a hour.
He even told you that your wastegate needs a fire ring, and you brought a gasket up there, so from all that peter told me i belive him over you....

LOL...that sounds about right. I've never had any problems with balanced.

This is just the typical crap shops have to deal with every day. You call for a qoute on having a downpipe made, then you tow the car there because it won't run and you ask if that could be fixed at the same time. Shops work by the hour not by the job.

I took my car to Balanced a few weeks ago for the first time. Originally I suspected a leak with the intake manifold, which Ryan from CoolCatRacing also said he suspected was the problem, as he had worked on the car previously. Ryan suggested that I have Balanced give him a call to discuss the problems with the car, but Jason refused to do so. "We don't need to talk to Ryan." He also wondered "why CCR wouldn't work on the car instead." No idea what he was hinting at with that but whatever. When I first brought the car in they had it for a week and never called. I always had to call them for an update. Later Jason told me that they could not find anything wrong with the manifold, but suspected problems with the tuning on the ECU. So it was sitting there for almost 2 weeks to have nothing but a simple dyno tune done, which they finally finished the same day they decided to actually start working on the car. The day they started the work he had told me that they "cancelled all other appointments for that day" or something like that, which I don't know if it was true or not, but 2 weeks for a few hours job is rediculous. When I asked about why they had the car so long and didn't work on it, he said that their (only) tuner had been working on their race car or something, and then decided to take time off and blah blah blah. I don't really care about all that, I just wanted them to update me regularly (or at all!), and it wouldn't have been such a big deal, nor would I have gotten anywhere near as angry with them if I actually knew what was going on. In the end my issue was resolved, but not in a timely manner by any means. IMHO they need to work on their CS big time.

Well Balanced is known for their RACE CAR work and they are extremely busy with SCCA, Spec Miata, Road Race cars, etc.

Not saying that they dont take care of the little guy, but i do know first hand that sometimes it can take a week or two for a "simple" job if you are busy an booked up.

Ive only dealt with jason once, he was nice , little stand offish but cordial.

Considered yourself lucky to get off on downpipe, intercooler pippings for only 660...I would NOT be b_tching about it and keep quiet since you got off on a really good deal. You will eventually understand what is involved, now that you have turboed your car.

    Thats my 2 dollars worth...
