Default noob to 240s....I have a few questions:

Hey you Nismo guys.......Help me come over to the DARK SIDE!

I have been Honda/Acura for years and I'm thinking about going RWD now.

I am looking into buying my first 240 but I don't know enuff about them to make an informed decision. I tried looking around but I couldnt find all the info in one place.

What model years are more popular than others and why??

What is the differences in S13, S14, etc. etc....what do they mean? Are certain s13 things good or bad as well as s14s?

I see engines that are red tops and black tops...what is the diff?

I see different engines ...SR this and that...is there a difference like Hondas are VTEC or not? Difference in torque like B16, B17, B18, etc?

I see some engines are DET and others aren't...?

And finally, What the hell is a kouki???

Thanks for your posts and assistance.

    Let's get you started.

    http://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread/183490
This is one of the best to let you know about 240sx in general.

S13/S14 is not necessarily more popular one another, just there are more S13 made.

    http://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread/306956
    SR thread.

    Engine code for nissan:
First two letters are engine family. Second two numbers are displacement. Last two/three numbers are other informations.

    For example:

    SR20DET

SR is the engine family. 20 is displacement (2.0L). D is dual overhead cams. E is electric fuel injection. T stands for turbo. However, it does not say information like vvt, turbo spec, etc.

KA24E from 89 to 90 240sx and other Nissan cars.

Just to show they do not have to be seven letters.

Kouki is Japanese meaning later/last period.

    Engine breakdown

Two things in the list are wrong.
    94-98 SR20DET motors in S14 Silvia have T28 turbo.
Aces Silvia S13 is the lightest model of all S13? Not enough information to support it though...

And a better break down on S chassis

    S13
    89-90 Zenki
The one in the US was called the 240sx. Available in both fastback and coupe form with the popup headlights. The on in the Japan is the fastback with popup headlights, called 180sx and the coupe with normal headlights, which called Silvia.
    91-94 Chuki
Nothing changed in the model line up in both Japan and the U.S.. Both US and Japan got an engine upgrade.
    94-98 Kouki
Only available in Japan, and it is only for the 180sx.

People usually mention their Silvia as PS13 and RPS13 to show the engine different, PS13 is Silvia with CA engine and RPS13 is Silvia with SR.

    S14
    95-96 Zenki
    97-98 Kouki

    S15
    99-02

not trying to be a penis or anything but it bothers me. pet peeve.
there were no fast backs, they were hatbacks. fastbacks looked like hb, but they had a actual trunk, whereas the hb the entire hatch lifted up. sorry just had to say it.

I perfer a S-13 coupe I have owned one for over 5 years and know every little problem easy to fix and swap motors in I did a RB25 ( which is from the R33 Skyline) several times blew them up on the track but that is the price you pay for a little fun.
