and also for those that don't know the 300zx is rear wheel drive with a 24 valve DOHC it's not much but that all could change soon like the additon of twin turbos could be in the near future

don't do it. You have no weight in the back....all of it is in the front. the most you can do is probably slide the car.

sell your stupid automatic boat car. if you want to drift, buy a decent car like a 240 or a e30 with a 5 SPEED and learn in the rain.
The server is too busy at the moment. Please try again later.

    wrong again you fuk wad.

I had a NA 300zx 5 speed hard top... i liked the low end power the NA had over the boosted car and it was easier to control a car with 200hp instead of it all on the top end.

You have 17,000 posts and you are the biggest moron on this site, I don't get you, how can a person be as stupid as you are?

honestly being a 300zx TT owner, id say **** a 300zx NA and get a TT. But as for drifting,300's are terrible to drift.. weigh to much.

    awesome.

come out to the drift event in cordele on the 21st on a friday night.

you can drift your auto NA 300zx.

its a little bit of a challenge in comparison to other wheelbased manual rwd cars, but definitely doable!

no worries, learn to steer, brake and throttle control.
its shifting of weight and balance, you can even do it on a fwd auto car....
obviously not a smart choice of platform but doable..lol

you will have so much fun.

its gonna be a night event so thats to your advantage, you can make a few adjustments with tires and simple setup to make it alot easier.
if you need help or have questions, there are people who will help at the event.

only 70 bucks and can get more info at southeastdrift.com or 240atlanta.com

    good luck.

Cadamson16 the 300zx, TT or not, is not a very popular drift platform. Autos will always be much much harder to drift.

That being said it is possible. Its just going to take a lot of practice. Like V-Empire said come to Cordele on the 21st. A real (legal) event like this is the only way your going to make any progress as a driver. Check the forums he listed in events. If you sign up Im sure you can find some people to follow down there and even split a room with.

If your serious about trying to learn come out, we always welcome new drivers and have instructors on hand to help teach you.

Go up to the Dragon with a steering wheel lock on at full speed. Best method I can think of.

Best way to learn to drift is to do donuts and boast to everyone that you are a Formula-D licensed driver. No one will want to do drift battle with you. The best part is you'll save money on tires because everyone will know you're the #1 drifter in your area so you'll never have to actually drift.

Or just go up to the mountains and start driving really hard... you'll learn how to drift. If you don't learn, you'll know it.

You can drift an auto, it will just be a harder learning curve. There is a dude in Myrtle Beach who drifts an auto Lexus. He is pretty good. I think you would be better off with a different platform. Your weight dist. and the auto is a double whammy. Good luck either way. Like some others said, try to make it out to an event. You will learn twice as much as if you street drift. Just my opinion.

    lmao @ fine print

But seriously... 300z... not a great drift platform. Not to say it can't be done, but there are other cars that it's much easier to drift in, and much less expensive to fix when you blow the motor and/or wreck (like s13 240s lol... dime a dozen)

Fuck stance. Stance is for kids in skinny jeans with Justin Beiber haircuts. You don't need stance when you got swagger.

Yeah, like everyone has so bluntly pointed out, drifting is difficult with an automatic unless you simply unsettle the car a ton with rapid weight transfers to get it to slide. You need intense control over your revs along with the ability to kick the clutch to really get some slip angle goin' on. This is really true even if you're just trying to rotate a car through a corner and not exactly "drifting."

Also, if you're going to drift, please don't on the road. Go to a track or even an empty parking lot (the latter isn't legal, exactly, but it's much safer). If you mess up on the road there's a good chance you'll die or kill someone else....which is of course no good. Spirited driving, sure, but drifting is not a public road activity, really. It's too "knife edge," or at least it seems that way. V-Empire seems to have a good place to smoke the tires a little. Rock that ****!

Some more good news is you've got a pretty nice car there. 300ZX FTW. Go get yourself a miata on the cheap or in trade for your car if you wanna get sideways, otherwise you can cruise in style and still enjoy your car on back roads just fine.

i had a friend who went to a few events with a twin turbo Z, and had THE hardest time with the damn car, bought himself an s13, and his first time out killed it as if he had been doing so for years

drifting is mostly in the suitable application, different driving styles for different cars, but honestly, you are screwed unless you put it in lower gear in the rain or on dirt roads, thats really the only way you are gonna get actual angle and be able to control it.

ebrake is your friend in this situation

Poor guy just asked a question on a car forum... only get flamed about his ride.

An automatic 300ZX is undoubtedly not the best platform to start drifting with, but the fundamentals are there. I would suggest an event, but to be totally honest with you, I don't foresee you having much fun with the automatic getting scared and upshifting all the time.

If you really want to get the basics down, find some huge, secluded parking lot that you can mess around in without running the risk of nailing a light pole, or curb, or something of that nature. Given your transmission however I would definitely suggest you have your fun in the rain.

Or if you're a little more brave, find some dirt roads, or big open dirt parking lots. The low friction provided by the surface ought to compensate for your heavy car, and it's evil transmission.

Start slow, and go by yourself, or with one other friend. To many cars attract unwanted attention, and by yourself you can start at your own pace; and commit yourself to understanding whats going on dynamically between your car, and the surface of the road. Be advised however, arrogance, and ignorance should never be mixed with performance driving; and trying to show off for people before you really know what you're doing could result in a totaled car.

Good luck in your endeavors sir, just be careful, and be mindful of your environment.
