OVERHEATING CIVIC

I have a 93 hatch with sohc vtec. It just started overheating. It will be fine i can run it hard no problems(turbo also) and every once in awhile at low speed and stops itll start overheating. It was fine all yesterday and then today it started again. Any ideas on what it could be. Thanks

I dont think it is. But would that make it overheat. Also i changed the thermostat so its not that.

This just started happening and ive had the car turboed for 4 months( 6000 miles) with no problems. It started 3 days ago on 85 in traffic.

im almost 100% sure its your radiator if its not doin it while your driving. EDIT: RADIATOR FAN

check ur fan if its ok check ur temp sending unit

Sometimes it doesnt do it while in traffic. Like yesterday it didnt do it at all. I was driving in traffic and boosting.

check the temp sending unit and the fan switch right next ot thermostat bc most likely the fan isnt coming on and when ur going fast enough the wind hitting the radiator is what keeps the car cool but when ur going slow the fan does that

It's most likely your fan dude...I have that same problem with my car so I'm just gonna run a straight switch to my fan because I tried everything to fix the stupid fan..I know it works cause I tried jumpin it...I'm not sure if its the temp sending unit cause I can't even tell when my car warms up or not...my temp gauge just now started working...Lol

the fan switch is pretty easy to diagnose too, all you need is a multimeter and some boiling water.

I was low on coolant, and mine over heated when stopped. Once moving and under power it seemed to flow coolant and cool it down, not really sure why. I too checked my fan and it ended up not working as well lol

I still have no clue i left my car running for 15 min gasing it and the temp wont go above normal now. But i know right when i drive it will. Could something be going bad and sometimes works and sometimes doesnt.

flush your motor, and change your termostat, once a termostat starts reading bad then thats what happens, but really your car aint overheating, unless it goes ka-boom..... think that will solve your problem...!

In my car after swapping a HG I had to purge all of the air out. If not you will have pockets that will allow your car to overheat. If its not that or the fan/ switch you may want to check your dipstick and radiator as you may have a blown headgasket.

Take a coolant preasure gauge an install it on your radiator, and do not pump it , just crank it, an allow it to run an see if the gauge moves, up, if it runs for more then 15mins, an doesnt move, then rev engine up for a few mins, about 2500-3000 rpms, if it moves anywhere, 5lbs or more, then you got a warped, head or , bad gasket , !
