look, if they beat your ass, he will be right back in jail... some people are just stupid fucks.. really and truly the money is yours, if you make a downpayment on something you are implying by all means and purposes that you will be buying that item, if you dont, you lose your money. i would love to see those idiots make a $3,000 deposit on a house and then not buy it, lose their money and wanna beat up the real estate agent. But... if you dont want any drama give them back their money, but if you are ready to put up a fight, do it. Infact, if i were you i would notify your local police department of what has occured and let them know that these men have threatened you, maybe even show them the IM's etc.. because if you decide to stick this out and they do infact come to your house to beat you, the police will be more than happy to back you up because they will know about the situation before hand.
