So anyways, you're wanting something around the price range of the D50? Look at the RebelXti and the D70. You might like either one. Dont base your wants and needs on bandwagon reviews. Most people are die hard Canon and will be till the day they die, and same for Nikon users. Both companies make excellent hardware and glass. The DSLR jump isnt for every person though. Remember even after you buy a kit for 800 or so dollars you still will eventually need more lenses in the future. A lot of high end point end shoots can cover a nice range that a DSLR cant out of the box with a kit lens.

But I will say this, Nikon has over 40 years of lenses that CAN STILL BE USED on their digital platforms. Cant say the same for Canon.
yes they can

i just got an FD to EF converter adn i can use all hte older lenses that have the same focal lengths and aperatures for half the price...(always canon lenses of course, no sigma here)!

so lets not go there

i will have to agree with AP though, i personally bought my Rebel XT about 4 or 5 months ago, and since then spent over 1000 on lenses and accessories. Finally getting a 70-200 f/4L that came in last night!

its not a hobby or obsession for the cheap or poor. you get what you pay for, ad its often alot

but if you go canon, remember some of the lenses wont fit some bodies, the 10-22 EFS wont fit a 1d or 5d, but will fit hte 10-30d.

one day ill get a 20d or a 30d...maybe around tax time
