camera problem, question

I have a sony F-717 camera that I bought used and it has worked perfectly since I got it. I took it to nopi and too well over 100 pictures with it and my 128mb card was holding it all fine. Well I go out one day to take a couple shots of the beater to sell it. Well I took one shot that was in almost direct sunlight and after that shot all my pictures would come out white. Well I got pissed thinking that I may have just trashed my lens or something. Well I decided to take a picture with the lens cap on and that seemed to fix my problem with that. But my main concern is my memory sticks. The camera wont even read the original sony card, it says "card read error" or something like that. Also my 128mb card only holds like 14-16 pics now. What would be the problem, could I have corrupted the card? I have not changed any of the settings from nopi and its all the same file. Still using the 101 file b/c 100 doesnt do shit that i have found out. Mr. Nemisis or someone that knows a lot about cameras want to help that would be sweet. I really dont want to buy a new card though.

Is there any option to format the card on the camera? I would try that first. Im not familiar too much with Sony Memory sticks, but I do know its usually good practice to format cards when reusing them rather than just deleting photos all at once.

As for the lens, its probably okay. If it was extremely bright outside it just could have been your settings for the photo. Extremely overexposed photos come out almost a blinding bright on your screen.

Not necessarily, you could also have corrupt file(s) or setting(s) that are locking up the lens, try this before the memory card suggestion below.

Note: If you have any custom programming copy it to paper before proceeding (I don’t know the camera, and I don’t know if it can be programmed)…


With the camera “off” turn your camera mode selection switch to auto and the lens selection switch to auto then RESET the camera to its factory defaults. Do this by opening the battery/memory cover and push the small button on the lower left corner of the opening with an open paper clip or something with a fine point.

Next: Garbage in, garbage out – an old saying in electronics, check your battery voltage. If your voltage is running low or it doesn’t have/hold enough power for the camera it can play havoc.

Also if you had a diagnostic screen popup (sounds like you did) check out Sony’s troubleshooting recommendations (rear of the manual) to clear them.

Memory: First check to see if there is anything lodged in them memory stick slot prohibiting good contact. If its clear and the reset took reformat the card with the refreshed factory settings.

did you take out the memory card while the camera was still on? thats what happened to mine and screwed it over :\. now im camera-less.

thanks for the help guys, I will try resetting it to the factory specs or reformat it or both. I do have the manual and all that, thankfully the guy I got it from game me EVERYTHING including warranty papers and such. I will let you guys know whats up.

But the battery thing, it probably had about an hour or an hour and a half on the battery. The screen started turning yellow when the battery got down to 20 min. or so.

well, I chose the "format" option on my camera after taking all the pics off the card. It took it a couple seconds and it seemed ot have removed all the pics that were still there that weren't "there" so to say. So I got it all worked out.

I've taken 14,000+ pics with the F717 You can store to multiple folders on the memory sticks. I have two 1GB sticks if you're interested.
