Post Processing

I use LR and PS CS5 mostly, and have use Photomatix for HDR, but I was messing around with Nik's Color EFX today, after running across a site that referred me to look at this guys work (http://dejansokolovski.com/). His work is amazing, and has made me realize that my post-processing needs to be heavily stepped up.

I went ahead and messed with Color EFX, and found that using the filters and receipes are MUCH easier than doing it the hand-processing way in CS5. Here is a quick example:

Before (just run through LR):


After (run through Color EFX with just one of the quick receipes):

looks like it just bumped the shadow/highlights up and changed color balance..

It did lots of little corrections, but I stayed with the simplier recipes. You can do all of it just in CS5 of course, but less than 30 seconds to process saves time from doing individual changes.

I was just dabbling with the quick settings. There's a lot more you can do once you mask off, and make individual layer changes.


Check out Dejan Sokolovski though. His work is impressive to me. He's out in Vegas shooting for car manufacters right now.

I use LR just for cataloging purposes and slight exposure and other ACR adjustments but then immediately export over to CS5.

i use a combination of different various actions as well as other plug ins which pretty much are all some form of curves adjustments with masks.

here is one i really enjoyed that i ended up printing on metallic paper in 8x10 which came out amazing. the tones and color blew me away.

Dejan is a really good photog, him, Webb Bland and William Stern do the photos for Dodge.

Good processing is a HUGE part of photography these days, perfect it or get left behind.

Not a fan of the after edit version. looks overdone and fake.

Im not a post processing fan to begin with. if i want a saturated look, ill use a film that has saturated results lol

I have to agree with this guy, because it does look overdone and fake. Sure it makes the car more visual, but it's something that could and should have been done (without obvious effects) when it was initially shot. Perhaps?
