The Point and Shoot does all the work and is a much better selection for person who does not understand or have time to fiddle with their settings...
Put a low level DSLR with a kit-lens on full auto up against this Point and Shoot and the point and shoot will perform better. There is no denying that low-light performance, zoom, and macro characteristics, you just can't get with a DSLR for the cost.
Get out there, take some pictures and work on knowing your camera. Show us what you got!
