    Default First (model) photo shoot {sample pics inside}

    so my sister landed a new job at Tony & Guy hair salon. Now shes working on a portfolio or something so she asked me to take some pictures of my friends and she can do the make up and hair.

    This is my FIRST photo shoot with "models" ive never done flash photography or portraits yada yada. My experience so far is a little bit of nature and car shows. So be advised... YES i am an amateur photographer... more like beginner is all aspects. however i think some of these turned out pretty well. Also this is my FIRST time messing with a photoshop and i think the program i used made the pics come out a little blurry

    pics taken with a canon rebel xsi & my kit lens, a canon 18-55 is lens



    please please please give any comments/suggestions/props because i want to get better at this. I actually enjoyed it and thought it was really fun. But also if you have a negative comment... please be civil

    I don't know if it's just me (probably is) or what, but the pics look so over-exposed. I, personally, have never cared for that look in a picture. Also, the outdoor shot looks grainy or hazy or something. Later, QD.

    well its obviously a digital copy. but yea later today im going to redo them based off yalls opinions.

    post the non-photoshop ones
    way saturated
    need to learn how to light better
    how are you lighting them?
    why all the blur?
    composition is nothing special and without good lighting it can kill the entire mood of the photo
    i would take everyone's advice and re-shoot these before she submits this as a portfolio

    what photoshop program are you using? scott kelby writes books on photoshop programs and he give's step by step lessons on how to use photoshop.

    Wow. The colors are way, WAY too warm (you should check the calibration on your monitor). The composition is lacking (to say the least). and the make up is.... not helping (at all).

    May I humbly suggest that you start with something more simple and traditional like model(s) outside at a park or other interesting background/setting. It might seem boring at first, but since it is simple you will be able to easily spot where you made mistakes here and there (bad focus, bad framing, bad light, etc) when you process the images.

    As you're no doubt learning.... its not easy to jump directly to the more artsy stuff and still get good results.

    -EDIT-

    If you are going to start shooting models then you should at least get a portrait prime lens. Most people swear by the Canon 85mm f/1.8 (which I have and love), but it is like $350 used. The Canon 50mm f/1.8 would be the cheapest way to get sharp images

    +1 what everyone else said. One important thing that I stick to unless I'm aiming for a different feel: Make sure the eyes are in focus and sharp.

    here are the originals with a border. they definitely loos some quality and color though when i upload them to photobucket.... dont know what to do there
