    Default Nikon N55

Not sure if this is the right section....But is the Nikon N55 a good camera? I can get one for a AWESOME (<---- I do mean Awesome) price and I was just wanting to know ASAP before I went and bought a camera that is crap. Fastest response gets rewarded +12 rep points.

No. Its a ~2002 era film camera. What you save on the body will be spent on film and trying to get it developed.

It also apparently doesn't work with Nikon auto-focusing lenses. (http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/n55.htm)

Only get it if you want to take photos like they did in the olden days of the 80's and 90's! :-)

NEW QUESTION: What is a good dig. camera for $100 and under? I'm not a pro. nor do I aspire to have a $1000+ camera, just something for simple pictures but something with alright quality. Another +12 will be rewarded for fastest response.

I'm headed out around 10:00 and I plan to buy a camera today!

It only doesnt focus with AF-S lenses, which lack a screw drive that focus the lens and have an internal focus motor. There are still PLENTY of lenses out there from nikon/nikkor that work with this

i can't wait for an explanation of what you mean here. film still reigns superior to digital.

Lol. MF and LF and maybe you have an argument. 35mm? No way. Besides the ridiculous costs involved with buying + developing film (and storing negatives)...there's also having to recalculate your exposure settings every time your light changes. ...and of course swapping rolls after you've shot your 24 or 36 frames per roll of film.

When you say superior, do you really mean 'takes more time, effort, and money to get good results'?

    of course i don't mean 35mm.

recalculate your exposure? you mean in that there is no aperture priority or auto mode? carry a meter.

and no. i mean superior in IQ, size ("megapixels") - large format can range from 200 "megapixels" to 800 "megapixels". most people don't do large format printing, most people don't print larger than 4x6 or 5x7, and lots of people never print at all. so with that said, megapixel count really doesn't matter past 6-10 MP.

film is still superior in many ways. for print and advertising, its the best - for now.

    but i do like digital....

Well since the OP was asking about a 35mm film camera, you probably should have been able to figure out, eh?

i was just defending film and trying to protect the OP from horrible advice - that film is bad because you have to develop it. lame.

Film is bad. Precisely because you have to develop it.

Film does have its place. The past.
